volume drops?

hows everybody doing?
got a question for you guys,i have a tremoverb combo
,im using a hot plate with it so its cranked,problem is im getting fluxuations in volume,its wierd only seems to do it in vintage hi gain mode .i was told over the phone by a guitar and amp repair guy it sounds like filter caps.does this sound right? thanx in advance,mike

forgot to add does the volume drop at low volume also with no hot plate attached and does not do it on the red channel.

If it's only on a single channel, sounds like a preamp tube might be going.

Could be a preamp tube or a LDR (light detecting resistor - I think that's what it means). I had my Tremoverb start going in and out and finally more out than in and it was a channel switching LDR on the Vintage side. The LDR only cost about a $1, but the labor was something like $45 to open it up.

Hope that's not what it is.... Try swapping out preamp tubes, or swapping them around and see if the problem goes away or moves.
