I bought one of these used, and it's the same color (blue) tolex as my Lone Star. I am planning on putting an EV inside and use it as an extension cab for my current set-up. I was wondering if I needed to close off the slot for the amp chassis. I realize that it's not a sealed back cabinet anyways, but it seems that having a huge hole in the front might have a detrimental effect on its performance.

I think it is more of a cosmetic problem than a sound problem because the Cab is open back. I used my cab as an extension speaker for my DR head while the LSC chassis was at the doctor, and I thought it was quite the portable rig!

Hey Joel,

I have exactly that same setup - empty blue Lonestar cab with an V30 in it. I haven't ever used it at a gig - been playing places too small to allow an extension, but it sounds great in my studio at home, especially on clean chorusy patches. THere is somthing great about spreading out your sound.

Just go for it.

I agree with everyone else about using the cabinet 'as is'.

I have a Lonestar Classic 112 Combo...but I recently bought a Lonestar Classic Head as well. I am using it (the Head) through a 2 X 12 Combo cabinet (minus the amp). Before I had the time to cut a full size piece to fill in the gap at the top (and cover it) I used the cabinet as it was. It sounded fine.

Alright then, I'll put it to good use immediately. Thanks a lot guys! I really appreciate the input. Charles Reeder even made a cameo appearance in my thread. ; ) Hey Joe, where and with who do you play? I live in Oakland, and I'm always looking to get out for some live music.
