I'm looking at getting a 2 channel Recto, I have a 3 channel right now,
so how or what do you use for boosting you solo sound?

I'm curious as to what makes you want a 2Ch instead of the 3ch? If I were to get a Recto it would be a 3Ch - that way I could setup my rhythm and lead tones separately - both in vintage mode!

Well, I'm going to keep the 3 channel, just want a new Recto and was thinking of a
2 channel.

Oh, I see. I don't have that luxury...

An OD seems to be the most common boost. If you want just a volume boost and a way to tweak your Lead sound you can use an EQ pedal in the loop.

An OD and/or clean boost will do the trick. An OD into a Clean Boost into a slightly overdriven clean channel is killer. Chris McKinley always recommends this type setup and for good reason. The Clean Boost acts to get your preamp tubes hotter which ends up tightening the amp and giving it a more aggressive attack. Then throw on the OD to then add some upper mids and harmonics for leads and solos. Its a great tone template to follow because at that point its like adding a few channels to a 2 channel amp.

If your looking at boosts/ods look at the Maxon OD808, Fulltone OCD, Xotic BB Preamp, and the Keeley Katana.

I do use a Maxon OD, but I guess what I'm tring to say is
that I want to boost the volume, make my solo louder.

Doomsday,

If you're only wanting nothing but volume boost for your solo channel, you might consider something as cheap n' easy as putting a graphic EQ in the loop, flatlining the sliders, and boosting the output slider to the desired level of volume increase.

However, if you're planning on doing much soloing, you might keep in mind that Rectos, while monsters for rhythm, aren't really known for their sustain or their singing, harmonically-rich mids. IOW, it's possible that your solos will be louder with just a boost, but still a bit anemic in terms of tone. If you want to add back in some vital mids and harmonics as well as just making the solo signal louder, you might consider what jdurso already wrote about.

Why not just make ten the loudest...These go to eleven....

Sorry. Couldn't resist. Listen to Chris he's the resident pedal expert. JD knows his stuff as well. If the Maxon808 is anything like the TS-808 (I run one) you may want to look into an TS-9 they are a little heavier in the mids. I love the leads on a Mark IV. Since money doesn't seem to be an issue, what about adding one of those?

Good luck
