I'm going to the states this summer (howdy), and I may be bringing me back some tubes from the trip. Is there any way the x-ray machine on the airport can cause damage to my precious tubes? I think probably not, but it would be interesting to hear some experiences/theories on this topic :D

No danger to the tubes, but I was once stopped at the airport when I had a lot of tubes in my carry-on bag... I guess the screen operator wasn't too familiar with tubes!

I had to explain what they were before they opened the bag and had a look. They showed me the pic on the screen and to be fair, it did look pretty suspicious :). We all had a laugh afterwards about how they looked something like what a nuclear bomb trigger in a James Bond movie would look like... but this was well pre-9/11 and they may have less of a sense of humor now.

Yeah, I definitely think bomb jokes aren't well accepted on airports, especially since 9/11. You got a good story out of it though :D

Thanks for the assurance on the x-ray machine. You know, they use tubes too...wonder if they ever tried some vintage Sylvanias ;)
