how important is it with matched powertubes in a recto. quartet or pair.single or.....

I'd stick with a matching set of tubes that fits within the Mesa bias range.

Thats ok with mesa tubes because you can buy 2 pairs with the same color code. For example, green and green or red and red.

Check your manual, but generally the power tubes are installed like this: X - Y - Y - X, where the X's are a matched pair and the Y's are another. The two pairs do not have to match each other, that's why Mesa doesn't sell them that way. You'd go Red - Yellow - Yellow - Red, or any other color, in that pattern. The colors serve only to match the tubes to each other, so any red works with any other red, etc. The various colors have nothing to do with sound quality.
There are some sellers that will match a quad for you, and get them to match Mesa's bias range.

i switched to electro harmonix matched quartet.it was all that they had in my local store and I didnt want to order this time.

in the future Il be more picky with choosing tubes but the EH sounds really nice. some say that they are treblish but......
it was tubed with eh when i got it so ....
