I have a Mark III blue stripe that I use in a rig that also involves a Studio Pre. I'm trying to use R1 of the Mark III for a pushed clean sound, with the Studio set totally clean. The problem is, when I dial the Studio's levels to the maximum I can get before my effects start to get overloaded, I can't get the volume control on the Mark III higher than 5.5 or so before the levels get out of whack with each other. Is there a 12AX7 I could put in V1 that would break up sooner but retain a similar final output level? I think right now it has Mesa-branded tubes in it (I haven't looked since I bought it).
