Hi Guys,

Since I've joined a new band and we've got a few gigs under our belt I've found my Recto (2 channel Rev C) sounds to bright/ harsh for the kind of music I'm now playing (botch, inhale exhale, norma jean-esque). Here's my setup...

My equipment list can be seen in my Sig. I normally use a Maxon OD808 as a boost (with the tone set at about 11). I normally use Red Channel, bold and diodes. I'm aware these are probably the brightest of the Dual Rectifiers but even with the presence turned off and the treble set just under halfway it still seems too bright for my tastes.

What I'm thinkning is maybe some of the tubes I'm using are adding a little too much top end? I'm currently using 4 JJ 6L6's and the pre amp tube kit from Dougs tubes which consists of:

Tung-Sol 12AX7
High Gain JJ ECC83
Penta 12AX7
Shuguang 12AX7 8th gen
Sovtek 12AX7 LPS

(I'm not sure which positions they're currently in, but it was as instructed by Doug's Tubes).

If anyone could recommend me a tube/position change that will tame the highs that would be awesome. Any other suggestions are also welcome!

Thanks!

That's one of my beefs with Revision C also.

I use a combo of high gain JJ ECC83's in the preamp and standard issue Sovtek 5881 (6L6's) in the power amp. It tames the high end considerably IMO and it cuts out some of sub-lows.

Take off Diodes, or use channel 1 cloned to high gain

I'd have never have thought of switching from diodes because I like the improved tightness of using them over the tubes.

I'll try cloning this evening. How could cloning help tame the highs, something to do with the orange channels circuitry that means even when cloned it wont sound the same as the red channel?

Thanks again.

Also what speaker cabinet are you using? I have R0005 and find I can tame it just fine, I do have JJ's in it all around so that might be helping.

Move the JJ to V1.

Hi, already done this as a result of some advice on another thread, it worked!

I have a dougs tube preamp kit so working with what I had I reshuffled the positions of the tubes from this:

V1 - Tung Sol
V2 - JJ
V3 - Penta
V4 - 5th Gen
V5 - Sovtek

To this...

V1 - JJ
V2 - 5th Gen
V3 - Sovtek
V4 - Tung Sol (as i never use te FX loop anyway!)
V5 - Penta

It sounds better now but I'll be investing in another couple of JJ's very shortly.

I'm using an Orange PPC412.

Im using a modified version of Dougs tube set.

V1 - TS RI
V2 - JJ hg
V3 - JJ hg
V4 - JJ
V5 - LPS

This tamed my stiletto.
