I've been an ADA MP-2 owner for about 15 years and have, for very short times, had a few used heads for only a matter of months with very little use.

My ADA is getting ready to croak so I'm ordering a Triple Rectifier next Friday. This will be an entirely new realm for me having virtually no experience with an actual head.

The MP-2 has a stereo effects loop. I run it into an Eventide GTR4000 and a Yamaha ProR3--everything blends nicely. But, I notice the Triple Rec only has one send and return and am very curious as to how I can accomplish going stereo with my FX rack WITHOUT having to invest in another cabinet.

I have a feeling that I could have potentially let the FX send ride out to my existing solid state ADA power amp and into a cab but I only have one 4 x 12 Marshall 1960B and really don't want to invest any more money for quite some time after purchasing the Triple Rec and another guitar just about 2 weeks ago.

I am, perhaps incorrectly, under the impression that if I use a splitter going FROM the TR send and another one TO the TR return that I'll experience signal loss. Would that be correct? Would there be any benefit to going stereo anyway since it'll return in mono? Alot of the Eventide effects are based upon panning so I'm a little concerned with the mono FX loop.

My setup now, which works nicely is as follows:

ADA MP-2 > FX Loop (STEREO SEND) > Eventide GTR4000 (Delays, choruses, flanges, etc.) > FX Loop (STEREO RETURN) > ADA MP-2 Stereo OUT > Yamaha ProR3 Reverb (STEREO IN/OUT) > (STEREO IN/OUT) Power Amp.

The ADA currently does all the mixing for the FX loop at about 25%.

Any ideas on how to get the best sound out of this rig would be greatly appreciated.

It will take a little rewiring of your cab, but if you wire it up to accept 3 loads split up like this- 1)top speakers 2) bottom left speaker 3) bottom right speaker - you could run the triple rectifier into the top speakers, run the send into the f/x then into your ADA power amp and run each side into bot left and bot right. I don't know what speakers you have in your cab, so it might be too much for the speakers to crank, but this is what I would do. You could also wire it up in an x pattern, have the TR going to the top right and bottom left and the ADA into top left and bottom right.

Gabe here. i used to run my dual rectifier with just a tube screamer at the front ... then i slaved it to my effects processor and then to a marshall Jcm 900 /EL 34. Each head was plugged into the L/R of one stereo Marshall 1960 B CAB. I toted around 1 Stereo Marshall Cab. the tone was awesome.. The effects was in the creamy midrange marshall and the crunch was delivered through a dual rectifier!.. I ended up getting tired of carrying two heads to gigs and clubs.

There will be a period of getting used to the triple rect. It wont be what you expect since you say that you have been playing 15yrs through and ADA w/Tube or solidstate amp. It is way different and a different feel/ and reaction to the strings... quick guitar passages may need concentration. It may take months of tweaking... to get that tone of fluid gain again......

dont get me wrong about my Dual and TRiple rects. They are massive when cranked up.
but for gigging purposes ....When i get a little more extra spendintg cash... I will go out and buy a MESA 2:100 Stereo power Amp! and pair it up with a 8 ohm cab! Maybe a LINE 6 pod PRO XT to do all my Gain and effects.. THIS PAIRED TOGETHER SOUND GREAT! yeah i know its a LINE 6... but Anything with a MESA 2:100 sounds awesome!!!
I had a Line 6 POD PRO XT w/ the MODEL PACKs I sold it to my good friend. He then USed it with a MESA 2:100. It sounds pretty **** closed to my Dual REctifiers .... PLUS he can get it TIGHTER and SCOOPED MEAN.. EVERYTHING IS controlled by his foot switcher.. Wah actually sound great...and I am jealous of the way it sounds.. What sucks is that he uses all my old presest that i created... My problem was that i was using the pod xt pro with Marshall jcm 900... So be sure on what you want first..

gabe. hope this is helpful..

Would it be feasible to just use a Y-Cable from and to the TR FX SEND/RETURN?

I guess it might also depend upon whether the TR FX SEND is actually a stereo output and input or not (in other words, would it take a 2 ring stereo cable or not). Anyone know?

Thanks for the input so far. I'm going to mull the suggestions over.

Preferably though, I'd really like to mix the FX within the loop and then output the entire mix to all four Celestions. The cab takes 300 watts.

All sends and returns on the Triple's effects loop are MONO. Yes you could find a way to split the signal from the effects loop into another amp or power amp.
But if you slave out from the Triple /dual you can still add the loop to the signal if you want to. ...........
The slave out Feature on the Dual and Triple rects have a simple volume control. So it is real handy while feeding into another amp source.
Also Remember The Slave Out is not a "DRY" out feed. .. Once the Loop is activated, What ever is in the Rectifiers' Loop is also processed through the SLAVE OUT 1/4 in. jack.
Let me put it this way.. what ever you can hear coming out to the speaker. That signal will fed into any other power amp by way of the SLAVE OUT ....

The way i used to run my rig was so that the mesa could be strictly "DRY" and the Marshall pushing My "WET" signal......

I dont run my set up like that anymore.. too much to Haul around..
Now i just run my effects through my Triple Rectifiers' Loop. with just a tubescreamer in front.
If i'd ever want a wall of sound/ or to look cool.. I will just slave out from my Rectifier into my Marshall.. or another Rectifier...
I used to think there was a huge benefit out of a STEREO System or a WET/DRY system... There really is not.. just a bunch of more wires to hook up..

Are your FX in the loop 2 channels? If so, are you just doing mono through the left channel all the way back to the DR/TR return?

yes.. now it is just mono . From SEND of TRIPLE, through the INPUT L and OUTPUT L of my effects processor to the Return of TRIPLE effects loop.

This is what you were talking about ? having a Y cable from Send of triple then feed both L and R of input FX processor and OUTPUT L into triple rect then OUTPUT R into another power amp. For Stereo setup.

let me know what you decide on what to get.. peace

gabe
