Triple Rectifier into marshall 1960 a or b cab impedance ?

Hello all. Probably a stupid question or two but I have Triple Rectifier running the eurotubes high gain e34l tube set. I have two marshall 1960 cabs...and A and a B. My triple has the 8, 4 and 16 ohm impedance options on the back. Which set up would you all recomend to run with one cab and with two cabs. I really dont know that much about impedances and ohm and I don't want to wreck something. I'm running the B cab at 16 ohms with the head at 16 ohms. Do the diffrent options give diffrent sounds. I want a tight cutting sound. Also which would be better with my triple the 1960 A or the B or should I sell one and get a mesa cab. All help is appreciated.

i'd recommend putting that head thru 2 mesa cabs... i've tried both the marshall and mesa cabs....but i'm a bit biased.. hehe seriously sell the marshall cabs and get some mesa cabs. the mesa cabs are better and way more road tough

I'm not a fan of the 1960 cabs either. The GT75's are too harsh and brittle for my taste. Maybe try getting a couple of Vintage 30's and run them with the GT75's in one of the cabs and see if you like that. Personally I'd ditch the Marshalls and pick up a Recto 4x12 though

you would use the two 8ohm outputs from the head into the 16ohm input on each marshall cab. Its a safe mismatch.

How do the 1960av cabs sound? I'm currently scoping one out for sale right by me for a very very good price. My whole thing previously with the 2x12 rec cab i had was that i didn't like the v30's but maybe i'd like them in the marshall cab?

My other guitar player has an old mesa cab with the metal grill. Does anyone know if they sound like a recto cab? I think he bought it with his Mark IV back in the day.

The old Halfback cabs sound nothing like the Recto cabs. The Halfbacks came in several speaker configurations, but typically they were loaded with Black Shadows and EV's. Plus the Halfbacks are considerably smaller than a standard 4x12 cab. You lose a lot of low end with those cabs.

Thanks guys for the replies. I have played through that half back cab and did notice the punch and low end to be lacking. I though I just didn't dial it in right.

Whats the diffrence between running 16 vs 4 ohms? ...as far as sound?

I have the choice between a straight 1960b going for 365 (but i have to drive up 3 hours to get it) or a slanted 1960av (with vintage 30's) for about 300 (drive is only 45min).

I haven't heard a 1960AV, what are some of your thoughts on it? both are in excellent condition.

Crap, i only have about a day and 1/2 to decide.

Hope this isn't too late, get the AV! It is WAY better sounding than the standard Marshall cabs, warmer, fatter, more mids, less harsh etc, just way better!

Get the AV, I have 1960 Vintage straight cab with V30, a 1960 Vintage slant cabwith 2 v30 on the bottom and two G75? on top.

The 1960 straight cab sounds better but my Mesa recto 4x12 slant cab just kills them both. You can pick up a used retro cab for about 500-550. I got my for $550.
