Watford valves :D
Loads of choice but make sure you get drive tested ones !! I wouldn't bother with the cryo ones, very little difference if any to my ears.

Have asked them and I have to say they are not that helpful.........and I always seem to get my tubes (valves) in the states as I'm there alot!!......and they are much much cheaper over in the US.......

Try Doug's Tubes for a set of Pre's . Or, just stick with Mesa's. For the Mesa's I Like the Russian 2. JJ's are kind of on the dark side. Good Luck.

I used a Triaxis for years. The best thing I ever did was use a Mullard 12at7 (balanced) in the V3 (effect loop) and V5 main outputs. It warmed up the tone and made my G major sound much better. In V1, I like Tesla NOS ECC83 or RCA 7025 tubes, but nothing made a difference like the Mullards 12AT7s in V3 and V5. They are cheap $25 ea and lasted for years giggin 3 nights a week. Enjoy.

Again?? :?

Honestly, I've skipped over this thread several times because I've learned, from parenting 2-year-olds, not to reward tantrums. But I can't seem to resist a good tube thread  And I wanted to give kudos to shredd6 for his reply.

Okay, Tramp, check this thread on Triaxis tubes.

Hey guys that wasnt a tamtrum!...just want some of that hard earned wisdom imparted my way!!........and Thom having 3 children myself am well aware of how to do the job right....Are we there yet, ARE WE THERE YET...ARE WE THERE YET!!! :D

Thanks for all your guys input, but its still hard to make those choices!! :?

The Triaxis has five tube positions. With over 50 distinct tube choices for each position, that makes for over 312 million possible combinations. Are we there yet, indeed!

The good part is that it is fun learning along the way. Ultimately, no one else can tell you what you like best. I find it a bonus to get to really know my own tastes, in detail, during the process of experimenting.

Hey Thom,
I don't know if you've ever run across one of these tubes..

But these tubes are awesome!!

I just paired one up in V1 with a Mullard CV4004 Box plate in V2, G.E. long-plate in V3, and a Mullard CV 4024 in V5 and the result was un-freakin-believable!! If you'd like me to explain in detail I'd be glad to later.

I really want to thank you for the CV4024 recommendation. Your posts don't go unnoticed, and your ear for tone should be put in a freakin museum..

Tramp, are you taking notes?? Timbre Wolf won't steer you wrong dude.. It might help if people knew what you were looking for as far as tone and style of music.

Thanks again Thom,
Peace,
Shredd6

Edit; Just so everyone knows, I have a Mesa Dual Rec 1998.
Thanks for the kind words, Shredd.

Those tubes are re-labeled RFT ECC83, made in East Germany (when there was such a place). I believe that RSD was a British company. Those RFTs are very well regarded for their early-breakup character, and people love 'em in their Marshals.

The CV4024 is really something, too - unique amongst 12AT7 types for its fat, smooth, liquid character.

Enjoy! :D
