After a few weeks gap (during which time my triaxis has been sitting in the rack in my lounge) I fired it up a few days ago. It did not sound pleasant! :(

Both Rhythm modes and all the Lead 2 modes had a very loud low hum. The sound was fizzy and fuzzy (almost as if put through a ring modulator) .

Lead 1 Green and Yellow modes were free of the hum but also sounded fizzy. Lead 1 Red (also free of hum) was really, really fizzy and very, very quiet.

I have revalved but this has not improved matters  I took the lid off but could see no obvious signs of anything wrong.

HELP! Any suggestions as to what could be causing this. Anyone know of a good amp tech for Mesa gear in West London.

Does it sound "clacky" and hollow?

I have had similar problems with mine. The older triaxis's are notorious for ribbon cable problems.

Mesa has a newer design on these now that hold up longer.

Give them a call and see what they recommend.

Good luck! :D

Thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't have described it that way but I've taken it to the tech recommended by the distributor and he thinks it might be capacitors 'drying out' during the period when it wasn't being used.

He is going to restore/refurbish it for me. :)

Yes, that certainly can happen!
Also corrosion can build on any make/break connections such as switches and any connections to wiring harnesses (such as the ribbon cables).

Sometimes just re-seating connectors can break that corrosion and resolve issues. Also using a contact preserver (such as DeOxit, made here in the San Diego area....just a quick plug  ) can keep it from coming back.

I only mention this as it's a quick and easy check that might save a trip to the shop. Otherwise, I agree it's worth keeping any Triaxis in good shape. They are awesome preamps!

Take care :D
