I get a pretty serious hum from my triaxis when going to any of the higher gain settings, mostly on the LD2 modes. I'm new to this preamp so I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if it's normal for the triaxis. I know that more gain equals more noise, but this isn't hiss or standard amp noise (which is expected from a high gain amp), this is a pretty loud hum. Even when the output is low and the gain and drive settings are around 5 or 6 it hums pretty loud. I took it to a local tech and he said Mesa stuff is always noisy and really couldn't find anything wrong with it. I tried using it out of the rack away from my 2:90 and with a 3 prong to a 2 prong adapter and it still hums.

I think it's time to find a new tech because the old ond is full of crap. My TriAxis is nice and quiet.

Actually, mine hums a little too much as well. Try filting the ground on the rear of the piece and see if that helps.

Before you go with a Decimator its a good idea to track down the real problem. First try to isolate the problem. Remove the Triaxis from the rig and put it aside. Disconnect everything, no FX units no nothing. Take a little amp (combo or poweramp wich is not in the rig) with the Triaxis then put in your guitar into the rear input and play around with that basic system. (Do change all cables as well, there might be a noisy one.) As we now have no possible way for a ground loop it should be very quiet now. The most noisy chans are not the LD2 its the Lead-1 Red (on V2.0 there you find the HiGain Rectifier modes). Crank in Gain and Master at 7.5 and full Dynamic Voice at 10. Dial the masteroutput pots at 5. You now should hear the noisiest mode. My triaxis is pretty quiet even cranked up like this. If your Triaxis is also very quiet now then you know you have a groundloop problem. If your amp still is abnormally loud at noises and hum, go to a tech who knows his stuff.

I have tried different tubes and all kinds of things...I even sent my amp to Mesa....it tested at the right levels they said....the Triaxis is a great preamp...but noisy at high gain settings. The ISP Decimator Pro Rack G took care of all the hiss. Hum isnt an issue with triaxis...its the hiss....get a Decimator...trust me...it doesnt effect the tone and does exactly what you think it should!

I assume ttbaron has a triaxis with some abnormally loud hum/hiss/noise of any kind. In other words: something maybe is malfuntioning in the preamp or there is other reasons for noise like a ground loop. Of course the Triaxis, like any other preamp will output hiss when cranked up wide. But nor you tremonti nor me has actually heard ttbarons preamp. As he described his preamp issue with 'serious noise' which is not normal and he already was at a technician with that, why the heck, i should not believe what ttbaron writes? There can be many reasons for noise that better aint be there. You can set the Decimator much more sensitive when the unit the ISP has to take care of gives only little hum/hiss. If it has to handle an abnomally loud hum which you still can hear once the decimator opens its gates while you play not to hard the system can not really work most effectivly. After the Triaxis is fixed (or the problem is sorted out in some way) you still can use the Decimator wich now will work totally awesome of course. I know it, i have a Decimator. But i never would denoise a broken Triaxis with a Decimator just to keep an maybe corrupted unit silent.

But, oh..lol, i guess that issue is long time fixed since i just saw the thread originates from Nov/2005 lol. So, no matter what, we're a bit late...
