Got a Throttle Box EQ & tried it in the loop with my Heartbreaker--
Not sure if the FX loop on that thing isn't working how its supposed to, but with isolated power and very short cable run, I was getting tons of high-end roll off and volume dropout. Had the gain set low (9 o clock or less), had the Lo volume set low, and tone at noon.

What I'm really looking to do is further shape the distortion that I already love coming out of the Love channel on the Heartbreaker.

Anybody have experience with running this thing through the loop? Or should I try to find the five-band pedal on it's own?

Thanks!

If you can turn off the throttle-box part it may work but doubt it. That pedal is more or less a front end deal (instrument level only). For the FX loop, the 5BGEQ or equivalents would be what you need. Not sure if the heartbreaker runs at line level or not. It sounds like you overloaded the pedal's input buffer which will kill off the tone considerably if the FX loop is not at instrument level. The Mesa 5BEQ also has limits on its use in FX loops. I can say this, it worked in the TC100 quite well as that amp runs +4dBu levels, clean channel and was a bit lower on the gain channels. No issue swamping out the buffers of the 5BGEQ. Tried it with the Roadster, MWDR, and RA100. not a problem.

Sweetwater is indicating the 5BGEQ is no longer available. May need to do a search to find one. Good luck with that. Many other places still have it listed but much call for availability. Not sure if it has been discontinued.

Thanks Bandit! All that makes sense

I was on the phone with Boogie peeps here and they said the 5BEQ should work great even with gain on the heartbreaker pre.

If anyone here has a 5BEQ for sale please hit me up!
