The longer I play my Mark V the more I love it. I usually leave it set for my "live" gig settings but it is an amazing tone laboratory!
You can dial in incredible low gain tones , and nasty disgusting tweed filth. What a great piece of gear.

It just gets better. This amp rules. I'm glad that I don't feel the need to buy another, and that I always want more time to play.

For a moment, I felt the love of my Mark V that I got in March fade because I was dialing tone more with my fingers than my ears, and also because the V30s in my new 2x12 were not broken in at all. Now I absolutely love the tone and wish for no other amp, but some new nice guitars would be nice  I play it at 45w most of the time with the master at around 11:00 to open it up. It sure sounds far better when you get it to around that spot, but it still sounds pretty cool at lower volumes, especially compared to other tube amps. The only thing I modified were the preamp tubes, I replaced 6/7 and recently tried switching them back but I find that I like it more with the change. I'm still using 6L6s and I love the tone, eventually I'll try some Winged =C= 6L6's.

No, I have done some indoor gigs. I expect this amp has the power to do outdoor gigs no problem. It comes alive when you start turning it up.
I am only using a 2X12 cab now. I would love to try 4x12 !

It seems that the Mark V, for some you, just doesn't cut when it comes to high gain... Saw a video, some time ago, comparing the Mark III to a 6505 or 5150... and it seemed as if the Mark had more gain... When I hear Lamb of God... I can't imagine them playing a Rectifier... it would be just to confusing... and for what I hear on stages all over, is the Rectifier not cutting like one would think.
The band, in my opinion that uses best the Rec, is Satyricon.. but their tone has so much definition... shouldn't the Mark do that kind of job a bit better? Lots of definition and a great low end...

The Recto has lots of definition... provided you dial it in to have definition. It will also cut through a mix if you dial it in to cut through the mix.

Long story short, the problem isn't the amp... it's a combination of the user error and inappropriate gear choices (using bass heavy pickups for instance, then blaming the ensuing mud and lack of definition on the amp).

Thats right..It's really about learning how to get the most out of YOUR setup. My guitar teacher used to say.." If you are a good player you can make any guitar sound good " . If you have a Mesa amp...esp. a V well...you are wayyyyy ahead of the field. Yup this amp is a monster.. just a matter of Dialology. (or tweekinosis.)

I started out in the 10 watt mode with it when I first got it. Now, I run in the 45 watt mode on all channels. I have still yet to really open the amp up and get the speaker, combo, moving. There may be more supprises in store down the road when I get to play at louder volumes.

Total monster...

I'm done looking/trying other amps. The Mark V has all the
"tweakability" an average joe like me needs...now it's all about
playing. :D

Ok, yesterday I went to the store to try the Mark, once again, but this time with my guitar. This time I had time to spare, I was able to play it for 2 hours, really loud, tweek it... everything!!! It just sounds so huge and full, awsome tone... the extreme mode is so powerfull, it reminded me of the Rec distortion!!!

Still, a friend is searching for some Mesas also, and next week I'll be trying the Dual Rec (it's the one he wants) and the Mark V head to head... to see if I can convince him that the V is also a great tone and distortion machine (since the Rec, as he says, is the ultimate distortion machine)...
I was just stunned by the power and tone...

Doesn't the manual say " the most musical power amp section in the industry" or something? It is so true because you hear the thing come alive when you turn it up a bit.
