Just got this one today. Forgot how fun Mark III's are. Fully Loaded, Red Stripe combo, absolutely stunning condition and just all around great sounding. It's a good day :D

Well I'm not one for taking good pics but I just got this bad boy in from the shop.

Also you can see I made a plate of steel, painted it, and covered it with velcro to hold the Boogie pedals together in place.

One new Speaker and one new Reverb Pan later plus some other minor tweaks and its good to go.

And of coarse you can see the Eminence Legen I put in it.

Im not too familiar with the Mark III's....what is up with the outlet/socket on the back, next to the power cable?

Generally for plugging the cooling fan into.

My green stripe III has a dedicated plug on the underside of the chassis for the cooling fan. The plug on the back of the chassis is where I plug a wall-wart for the delay I run in the loop. I've also used it for WWs for wireless receivers in the past.

Indeed my Blue Stripe has the fan outlet underside of the chasis and the one on the back is for extra stuff.

One thing where the outlet will come in handy for me is I'm having a custom pedal built to control the amp which will run off of a wall wart. The power cable will be inside the pedal cable so I just plug the three cables for Lead, R2, Rev, and EQ in along with the power supply in the extra outlet. Nice and tidy.

I'll have to check the underside of my combo for that outlet.

10-4 its a small two prong outlet tucked up to the left side of the power transformer. Its hard to see and find but it should be there. Unless your amp is different. I thing the external one is on when the cord is plugged in (yall check me on that one) and the fan plug gets power when you turn the amp power on.

My Mark III '87 Purple stripe, rackmount but in a rack all to itself.
Needs new power tubes, not because they are old, but because I don't like them.
Love it so much ;_;

Just fired it up for the first time last night. Lovin' it!

BIG QUESTION: What tubes should I use in the outter sockets for the best British pop tones? I've played Mark IIIs before that had a really nice chime to them in the 15 watt position. I stuck some old but strong 7581s in the outter sockets. They're great, but no chime.

Here's mine. No stripe I believe? I know it's one of the very first ones, as when I called Mesa to place my order for a Mk II C, I was told for the first time about the new MkIII. They said I could still get the Mk II if I wanted. Had not yet heard of the Mk III, but I ordered it. 2-weeks later, when my next Guitar Player issue arived, there was the first add for the Mk III.
