Ok here is what happened... I was reading a post here about SPAX7 pre amp tubes and I decide to add more SPAX7's to my already SPAX7 heavy pre amp tube cocktail. So the list is Spax7 V1, penta lab V2, Spax 7 V3, Spax 7 V4 and Spax 7 V5.... I then replace my Mesa output tubes and rectifier tubes (EL34's, 6L6's and 5UGB's) with a fresh set of JJ's tubes from the tube depot.

Then I hear my amp go snap snap snap snap snap snap!

the FX loop is gone and only when I turn off the loop do I hear the amp work.

Its in the shop and I just got the call that the output is at 50%, Channel 2 is not working and the 2nd loop channel is not working.

85.00 an hour and I said "Fix her up" good thing I cant sell the RM100 cause its my main amp right now.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me about JJ's.

Hate those tubes.

And dude thats alot of spax7's.

And you posted this in the classified section.

Did you set the bias after replacing the power tubes? Unless you put a bias mod I don't think RK has a bias pot?

yea my mistake about the classified mis posting! Sorry wont happen again.

I think its the JJ tubes. Tube Depot sold me a Roadking package and this is what happened.

it did blow up two weeks ago and the guy just got it on his table, called my music store owner pal who called me for the go ahead. Im hoping that the RK does not end up putting me out for a lot of money... My pal the store owner told me not to worry about the price... but as a true pal... I got a drubbing from him as well.

Spax-7's... yes thats a lot of SPAX-7's and I had no idea about proper pre amp tube cocktails but thats the pre tube I like and I post in here like crazy trying to get any advice on pre amp tubes... often with no response.....

live and learn I guess but I should be paying for a new set of output tubes and I look forward to having my RK back.

Right now Im using the randall at rehearsal and the iPod's new iRIG app which is pretty cool!

Hey, sorry about the downtime! Where are you in chicago? have you ever brought it to the auth mesa repair shop on elston near irving park? I brought my 2:90 there and they fixed it, and not too expensive. Then my mark II needed help, so I took it to schroeder amps on hubbard near ashland, closer to where i live... but not sure they knew what they were doing with that one, and I sent it to Mesa factory.

What music do you play? do you play any bars or clubs?

I send all my fixes through Goodtime Music in Streamwood IL... but thanks for the heads up on the other places. I play corporate comfort coversongs in a band called "Summertime Party freaks" its a collection of former original bandmembers that want to play for crowds and make a living.

its on Facebook but its not up and running yet. We plan to make our debut in jan/feb. What kind of music are you doing and what band are you in?

ok cool, I'll keep an eye open for when your band starts up! I am a bedroom player, recovering from a spinal cord surgery that has severely affected my pick hand/arm, and moderately my other hand, so i can't play much of anythng now other than some chords... maybe another year to recover. But I enjoy all types of music, with good guitars... but metallica i would say inspired me to go out and get my first guitar. Playing rhythm guitar in a cover band would be cool. I was bartending at shaw's crab house (schaumburg) for the past 6 years.

here is the report on the sound of the amp.... SOUNDS AWESOME! The Spax 7's were the right decision... the JJ's sound fine as an output tube section. I plugged in and everything sounds really nice.

Here is the repair list:
1) Confirmed bothe effects loop 1 and 2 do not work on any of the 4 channels
2) Loop 2 does not shut off on any channel (which could mean I left loop 2 switched on in the back independantly of the main loop 2 switch) but I dont use the 2nd loop.
3)Channel two not passing any signal...All LED's dim when channel is used

Repair action

1. Dissassemble unit and troubleshoot to faults in loop and switching circuits. Remove Rectifier board and output tube board to access and remove loop board.
2. Found several shorted and leaky JFETS in circuit. Replace all switching FET's in loop circuit; Replace muting FET's as well.
12 devices replaced.
3. Reassemble amo and test all channels. Test all channels and all switching configurations.

Reverb is not working which is no emergency since I use my eventide TF for simulated reverb but it will have to go back to the shop after next tuesday.

I sure missed my Roadking!!!!
