I'm thinking of retubing my Strategy 400 power amp and want to experiment with EL34 vs. 6L6 tubes or some combination (perhaps one driving another in the signal chain?) in the power section, and new ax7 tubes in the "prescence" section. Regarding the ax7s, I'm thinking JJs, but am open to suggestions otherwise.
Any opinions/experience on combining EL34/6L6s?
I am shopping/researching Triaxis vs Recording Pre to replace my Line 6, but my current setup is as follows:
Line 6 Pod Pro (not XT)-->TC elect G Major-->Strategy 400-->Marshell 4x12 cab w/Eminence speakers (forget the model, but they are the "flattest" ones regarding tone)
My playing style ranges from metal-hard rock-progressive with warm, clean tones intertwined...
