I've been going for the Tremonti tone with my Roadster, but I keep wondering how much closer I could get with a 3 channel Triple Rectifier.

I can score one for cheap, but I don't know if I should.

It's generally not a good idea to chase an artist's album tone. You will never achieve it completely. Too much work went into EQing and mastering and in Tremonti's case MIXING DIFFERENT AMPS. He uses an Uberschall for his low end along with the triple.

Watch this video and check out his settings - he tells you each knob's setting! Use them on your Roadster channel 4 modern and call it a day on the Tremonti tone chase...

Well actually you have to be more specific of which tone you want. In his creed days (everything except first album which was marshall) it was a 2 channel Triple or Dual, i actualy heard he used a dual for recording and a triple for live.

Now a days he uses the mix of the 3 channel triple and the uber, I heard he switched to the 3 channels because the two channels are getting rare and he would rather use them for recording and not chance loosing them or hurting them on tour.

And - in the studio - Tremonti uses, like, 5 amps. Don't chase his recorded tone ;)

For what it's worth IMHO the gain channels on the recto sound better than the roadster's. But the roadster cleans kill the recto's. So it's down to this. Which amp do you like better?

You can chase the tremonti tone forever and never find it due to the fact that a part of a guitar tone comes from your fingers, strings, pups etc. So stick to the amp you like, create your own sonic footprint and rock on :D :D :D :D

definitely agree the regular duals and trips sound more aggressive than the roadster which seems smoother. when i was trying to find my new prs, i actually demo'd a mccarty through a 3 channel recto through a standard (oversized) cab and as much flack as the 3 channels and standard cabs get it sound amazing. i had never tried a 3 channel triple but everything fit so well that it got me wondering whether i had the wrong amp and cab but at the end of the day the triples and duals just cant do some of the great stuff the roadster can. if anyone has the secret as to how to get the roadster to sound more aggressive (aside from eq and OD pedals) i'm all ears (maybe different tubes, secret eq setting). Also i wish they made a triple rec roadster because i love the additional headroom you get from the TRs.

oh one thing i forgot to mention i played the triples with the loop hard bypassed so i thinkt hat may have soemthing to do with it. too bad i cant do that with the roadster because i need the **** loop for my fx.

after owning several rectos, you couldn't pay me enough to ditch my roadster for another dual or triple recto...and i'm in a metal band. the roadster is so much tighter, and yes smoother...but in a good way. throw in some KT77's or EL34b's and stick an overdrive in front of it and you'll have a super tight amp that still has as much crunch as any other amp...but without the flubbiness or harsh "buzzsaw" sound that the rectos are known for.

i'd keep playing with the roadster. to my ears at least, the roadster sounds like what tremonti was always shooting for with his recorded tone. a modern high gain amp with a ton of distortion, but with some warmth as well.

i dont know what the hell tremonti has that tames the bass on 10... maybe his 2x15 because its too much for my cabs. although it doesnt sound bad, i think you just need the right cabs.

Well more then likley in the studio he does like he does on tour, he uses direct boxes! He may have all those speaker cabs, but he likes the direct boxes into the PA.
