I am looking at a Stiletto heat to pair with my 4x12 Stiletto cab.

I have a Mark IV and a DC-5 which handles my METAL and "Mesa" rock sound well but was looking for something different to perhaps capture some of that marshallesq (Appetite for Destruction) sound.

How blues to metal sound can these get and most importantly, do they sound good at bedroom volumes or ONLY cranked?

Really looking to cop the GnR /ACDC to Blizzard of Ozz kinds of tones

Any feedback is appreciated.Thanks!

The Stiltto is a great amp, but I've heard the Ace comes closer to the Hot Rodded Marshall tones your describing. I've played the Stiletto Deuce and it was nice but felt a little different. Never did try out an Ace.

Any comments Robie? You went with the Deuce from the Rectoverb and I was surprised that you went with the Deuce over the Ace.

Only way to find out is to try them both. Sound is subjective. They have the same preamp circuits but different transformers. I found the Ace was more brittle & bright sounding when compared side by side with the Deuce II. I didn't have the chance to try a Trident. I guess for me the Ace sounded a little tighter and maybe more retro (classic early 70's) than the Deuce. The Ace had a more Jimmy Page or Free (Alright Now) kinda groove where as to me the Deuce II had a little looser/deeper more Van Halen'ish (Running with the Devil) feel to it. The Deuce had more of that feel you get when to pick a note and it sounds like it's on fire.. the Ace to me didn't feel as hot. I was able to get the Deuce very similar to the Ace by switching the cabinet to the 4 ohm output and setting the amp to 50 watts... this changes the feel and makes it brighter and tighter but I switched it back as I prefer the bigger, smoother sound in the 8 ohm setting. I'm doing a crappy job of describing this... A lot of guys like the Deuce and a lot like the Ace so you're better to just go try them out and see which one you prefer for what you like to play.

I have the ace and love it, 50 watts is more then you'll ever need IMHO. I had the MKIV and like the ACE a lot better(for my style music, classic rock, blues). R3 on the mKIV was very cool but, a lot different then the ACE stiletto sound IMHO. Ace is a lot Marshall with it's own voice in there too. It's cool to read write this stuff but try to hear it for yourself.

How are the bedroom volumes? I dont gig and am not in a band.

I would be using this primarily at home and have heard that you have to crank this amp to get decent tones from it.

I think if you want bedroom level sound you might want to look at the Express with the EL84's

My MkIV sounded really good at lower volumes and the Stiletto is pretty good at lower volumes but it sounded better as it gets louder IMO. The Express 25:5 was the best at low volumes that I tried.

Also... 50 watts is all you'll ever need live because you'll mic it. But with 100 or 150 watts you won't be that much louder but you'll get a lot thicker tone... the difference between the 50 watt and 100 watt on the Deuce is very noticeable but in thickness and punch.... not volume.

Ill give my opinion for what its worth,, please keep in mind, its only my opinion,, im not trying to bash any amp.
I tried a whole sh!it load of boogies before finally settling on the stiletto series,, I owned the ROV and F-50 prior to my Deuce.
Staying on the subject of Stiletto's I tried to like the Ace but just couldnt.
Its a very nice amp but comparing it directly to the deuce stage 2,
I thought the deuce sounded so much fuller, gainier and can get much darker than the Ace which seemed overly bright and brittle to my ears.
I compared the Ace head to my deuce head,, and I thought the combo magnafied the traights I didnt care for. But this may simply be the fact that the combo was only a single speaker.
Im just like you in the aspect that I never play out live, I do play over at friends basements periodically but mostly in my basement.
I know, and knew before buying the amp that it was a bit of an overkill but also realized after owning the ROV and F-50 that even these were overkill for my needs. You must already know this, owning a mark4 and dc3 and only playing at home.
All the amps mentioned here naturally sound better the more they are cranked up, but I also decided on the three amps that I owned because they all sound excellent to me at lower levels,, I would not have chosen the deuce if it didnt,, the ace was nice also but simply not as nice to me as the deuce.
I didnt know this before I spent time with my deuce, but there really isnt much of a difference between 50 and 100 watts. Honostly.
There may be a few decibles of difference comparing both channels completely cranked,, theres just not much difference and I cant ever really imagine cranking either 50 or 100 watts unless your trying to do yourself some harm.
You will notice with the 100 watt option that you can run the clean channel at 100 watts for higher headroom if you choose to play loud.
Anyways id suggest trying both out,, who knows, the ace might just be perfect for you,, many here love them.
I chose the deuce because I thought it sounded better right off the batt and I dont know what the future will bring me,, I may be glad ive got 100 watts some day,, who knows?
And even though most of my playing is at a lower level I do get the house to myself once in a while, thats when I get to make this Fxkxer scream,, and screaming metal she does very well.

Wow! as you can read, this stuff is very subjective. I love my Stiletto ace at low volumes. The express is a good idea too IMHO. The express clean channel is fantastic and better, IMHO then the ace but, the ace kills for that Marshall type old shcool sound(I love it). I will throw one more amp out there, it's the Orange tiny terror head ($550 new) 15watts all tube (switchable to 7 watts) with a great master volume and tons of gain. It's a killer sounding tube head and great at low volumes in the house and can gig if you don't need super clean. Again try to get out and check these amps out, don't forget the express line too.

With some compression my Ace' clean channel is really nice. It just takes some time to dial in.

yea, don't get me wrong I love the ace clean tone too, I just like the express better, and the whole stiletto ace pkg better too. I wish Mesa would give the ace the 5watt option that is on the express. That's a great tone full option IMHO, and needs to be put on all Mesa's.

I have an original deuce, version 1.
I use mine in a 1 bedroom apartment, with a 70's ampeg V4, 4x12 cabinet.
It will sound pretty good at lower volumes, thats the only way I can use mine. It will cut thru the mix. The cabinet I have is a darker, bass heavy cabinet, so the GnR and ac/dc tones are no problem, never tried it with another cabinet.
And it is for sale, my ears hurt,,
