Ace sounded very harsh to me....but it is a very mid heavy amp, and I doubt the litle mic handles that well...

Triaxis was nice....a little hollow sounding to me for some reason.

JMP sounded thin to me. My least favorite of the lot.

Recto sounded nice and fat...more favorite so far. Did track as nicely as some of the others when you started some of the faster picking, but it really sounded nice and fat.

ADA sounded the most grainy and saturated to my ears....way to fizzy.

Again, with such a small mic, all these may not be good representations, but my opinions are simply comparing them to each other.

One thing you may want to consider next time....every amp had the mic in a different position, which would also change the tone perception...though it may only be a slight difference, keeping the mic in the same place would be a fairer test IMO.

Very cool little video though! Thanks for doing this!

actually, mic was exactly the same for all except the stiletto. about 2 feet from my 2x12 cab. only thing moved was the camera.
the stiletto was about 2 feet away as well, but i think i had it louder.

My favorite in the clip was the recto.

However I think a lot has to do with the mic setup. They all sound on the thin and grainy side and nothing like standing in the same room as the amp. I have played all these amps in person. I would say the Jmp-1 is my favorite by far. Not a big fan of the Triaxis or Mp-1's, they're both so compressed and lifeless sounding to my ears. Rectos and Stilletos are very nice IMO.

Cool clip none the less. :)

i should also note, that the ACE was loaded with JJ el34-L's when i did this recording this morning.
shortly afterwards, i yanked them out for some regular JJ EL34's.

i really dislike those L's in this amp, but they sound ok in the Dual Rec.

I'm sorry but this is not serious !!!
You have to point a shure sm 57 to your speaker and record all tracks this way.
It's annoying the way you recorded them with a cra.p(guessing) mic.
I have triaxis,jmp1 and mp1 666.
They are really the best preamps in the world and your video ruinned their sound.
They will always sound terrible recorded with a cra.p(guessing again) mic.

According to my experiences with them I choose triaxis,mp1 666 and jmp1.

Triaxis = amazing !!!
Mp1 666 = very good !!!
Jmp1 = sterile and sounds digital but still a good preamp.

Umm, You must have pretty much ignored the body of his post. He admitted he recorded it with his mac's built in speaker, so it's not like he was trying to fool you. Second, the MP1 is a 3TM version, not a 666 version. The 3TM and 3.666 mods sound different.

Another classic example of 18&Life being a dick. Comming on these boards talking rubbish and insulting people when its not needed, if you dont like the clips why even bother posting, bet he doesnt even have an amp!

that was an interesting clip. (note: the following are based solely on the clips. i'm certain these amps would sound very different in person)

stilleto: this sounded like it was being pushed over its limits. the breakup was raw in a non-musical way, not really sounding tight enough for metal, could be good for trashy punk.

triaxis: better, the lows were tight but it was still harsh.

marshall jmp-1: quite compressed, not enough lows for the palm muting style of playing (of course an eq adjustment would help). meh.

recto: voiced much more in the low-mids than the other amps. again, tight lows ideal for metal. whether or not the voice is good or bad, that's just opinion. a little on the scooped side but tuff sounding.

ada: i liked this one actually. aggressive and high gain, maybe this would be best for a lead sound. with a little more lows and a little less gain, it would rock.
