THese puppies have made a noticeable difference in tuning stability on the LP and knowig that I can shnge strings in seconds takes a load off of my mind considering that I won't have a backup when we leave for Europe.

It was a bit unnearving having to drill holes in the headstock, but it only took about 15 minutes to install these- plus, if I want to go back stock, then the holes will be covered by the stock tuners.

My only remaining gripe about the tuning of the LP might be solved by graph tech saddles. The **** G string remains the black sheep of the bunch. I already have a graph tech nut installed and this helped tons, so I know the string isn't binding there.

Have you flipped your bridge backwards? I know that may sound weird, but it is the first thing I do to any LP. Flip bridge, reintonate, and the G problem goes away.

You won't like the Graphtech saddles. The guitar will no longer sound like an LP.

I agree with noodles. My tech flipped the bridge on my 71 SG and it cured the G string problem.

As for the Graph tech saddles, a friend of mine put them on his Paul, and to me, it sounded like it got neutered.

Mine's flipped as well, and the stop tail is top wrapped.. No "G" string probs here, and rarely is out of tune...

Forgive my confusion - what exactly is the G string problem - not staying in tune? Binding?

The problem is both...binding (going sharp) and going flat. Basically, you get everything right, and the G string becomes the glaring difference.

Would flipped be screws from the pup or stop? I have never had any issues with G but I have always had mine setup before leaving the shop. I have a good tech so maybe they are already flipped on mine and I just have never known it. That or I get a killer setup that requires no flipping? I haven't had the guts to top wrap yet, but my tech says that it is all dependent upon where you have your stop. He said that it helps with string angle and breakage. I just can't see beating up a stop like that. Don't they sell intonated stops too? Or even one piece bridges? Haven't I seen micro tuning stops around too? I don't seem to have problems with my intonation or tuning. All I do that I know of is Grovers on the headstock. If my bridge is flipped it is beyond me. I have noticed after killing a bridge that I tend to slide around a little for a while until the bridge gets cut by the strings. I asked my tech to cut my new ones to stop this and he said he didn't believe in it and that the strings need to find their home on the new bridge. This has been the first time that we ever disagreed. I think he probably knows better than me so I let him win that one even though I would have paid him to do it anyway.

I've been considering getting Sperzels for my Les Paul too. But I think I'll have a tech put mine on. I'm nervous about drilling any holes in mine

I agree with Eldi. It's always best to have a tech do it...and their skills are generally sharper...and if for no other reason, if they mess it up, they are liable to make it right.
