I don't understand why they think that kind of intrusive solicitation is going to get them any business. It just ruins our board. Are there any updates to the board software that will catch the bots? Any way to require 30 seconds between posts to deter the speed at which these posts are posted or something?

It actually got worse after I upgraded the board. My other forums don't have these issues.

Step taken: No more registration from GMail users as this is where 99% of the spam comes from. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, I noticed the spam after the upgrade as well. Seems like there are some new features that need to be disabled or something. It is somewhat interesting that most of the spammers use Gmail accounts. Let's hope denying them registration helps out. I would have thought the VIP code would have been enough, but apparently you are not dealing with a bot.

Don't those goof balls realize that they're just giving us a "do not spend any money on these products/vendors" list?

It's one sure way to guarantee they go broke!
The jokes on them!

Would perhaps a better CAPTCHA on the registration would help filter out the spam bots?

Ned, perhaps make a subforum visible only to newly registered members where they have to post a bit about themselves? Have them make a post about their gear or something before they can actually post anywhere else on the board. These spammers will probably just post their stupid ads there, and then they just don't get approved.

This would of course require some amount of human work to go through them, but I'm sure some trustworthy members on here wouldn't mind doing some of the work. It's not like there are hundreds of new members here every day, and it only takes a quick look at a post to tell if it's a spammer or a person truly interested in amplifiers. It would take a few minutes a day at most, I'd assume.

I'm suggesting this because a guild I was in for a game once ( ) did something similar, and it worked very well.

Actually since I've blocked any future registrations from Gmail the spam has stopped. Let's see how that goes, if we get hammered again then I'll implement your suggestion.
