Hi everyone, I have a Mark V on order from Sweetwater and it should be shipping in early October. I have never owned a boogie before, as I always thought they were too hard to tweak. After hearing some killer clips on the netmusicians website and reading the user manual, I decided to take the plunge. Reading the manual is really what pushed me over the edge.

My concerns about it amp being too complex seemed misplaced. Anway, I have just sold my Budda Sd30 and am eagerly awaiting my new mark v.

For cabs, I will be running it through either an avatar premier vintage 2x12 (one with green backs one with a g12h30/v30 combo) or an avatar oversize 1x12 with a celestion blue. The 1x12 most likely won't get used because of it's wattage rating. I also plan to record using a hotplate and various speaker impulses.

I called the mesa dealer about 40 miles from here and they had a mark v head. Brought it home and played it for a bit, making this clip. Sadly, it totally died while I was going to add a third guitar part. No power, no nothing. I suspect a fuse, but who knows.

Not meaning to steer the business from sweetwater as they're nice guys, but the initial demand for Mark V has bean falling off pretty rapidly it seems...When I was looking for one three weeks ago, 2 CA dealers had them in stock and one of them (which is an advertiser on this board ) shipped Mark V combo to me the next day. Just FYI.

I pre-ordered from Music Power back in late July / early August and didn't receive mine until a week ago. I believe they sold all of the heads from that shipment within a few days.

I also had considered buying from Sweetwater before I purchased from Music Power. I went ahead and signed up for the "notify me when you receive a shipment" from Sweetwater. They received their shipment a week before Music Power, notified me, and before I could consider buying from them instead, they sold out. I was happy with my Music Power purchase (although they could have done a better job keeping me updated on the backorder status) but it could be that Sweetwater will get another shipment a week or so before MP.

You should have little difficulty dialing the V in, especially compared to the IV.

i would gladly try to steer someone away from big box places like sweetwater.

i would rather give the money and profit to the guy down the road than to some farily wealthy ceo's in indiana.

the price for boogies is the same either way, cant be discounted, but you can do trade in's toward from a local dealer.

plus if your dealer likes you he will probably throw in some freebies for you, strings, picks, cables, something to say thanx

if your making other purchases w the head, more likely to be given a better price on the other stuff.

if it gets shipped w a bad tube i can call the store and run down and grab a new one and swap him out. if the amp problems are serious i can drop it off and let him deal w all the shipping hassles. try that at somewhere like sweetwater.

plus it builds (if you dont already) a rep with your dealer towards future purchases and discounts and such.

and again i would rather just give the money to someone i know!

i really think boogie has hurt there reputation and their dealers by now letting places like sweetwater sell their amps.

What happens to a dealer who does discount them? I won't be naming names, but a friend of mine just bought a full stack at a significant discount.

If Randall Smith finds out about it, they will no longer be a MESA/Boogie dealer. Or at least, that's what they used to do, before internet sales.

With some state sales tax being near 10% (9.25% in TN) it makes no sense to pay that much more just to support the local guitar shop, especially when you can get merchandise shipped free. Besides the fact that the local Mesa dealer has yet to come near impressing me, I didn't see them $185 worth of freebies or better service. This hunch was in fact confirmed in a phone conversation with the store. Apparently they are selling these quickly enough that they could have cared less about missing one customer.

Maybe I will try them again when I buy my PRS, but then again I will probably not...

The situation I referred to isn't an internet sale. I don't have a clue how the relationships between manufacturers and dealers work but it seems like it'd be next to impossible for them to find out how much a dealer is selling their merchandise for. I've only been on the forum for a few months but I've never seen anyone from Mesa comment here. My friend saved about $800 off list on his stack though.

I bought my PRS from Sweetwater and I have to say it was EXCELLENT...I even got the to throw in a 60 dollar leather guitar strap for free...all I did was ask and they said sure...I've bought many guitar from Online stores before...and sweetwater killed them all

ah and there was no tax either and I got it the next day with no shipping fees because I live 2 states away

I disagree with the bolded part.....it's a new world order of business out there.

It's not very easy for Mesa but not impossible, considering that for any warranty work you have to provide a proof of purchase (receipt) from an authorized dealer. They obviously won't see the whole picture, but after a few cases they can easily call a breach of contract and drop offending dealer from the list...for good, if not forever.

I emailed one of the three mesa dealers in my state (MN). Haven't heard back from them if they have a markV in stock. The other two locations are guitar center, and I will avoid them if possible.

Ordered mine from Mesa Hollywood. They were back ordered for a couple weeks. 4 days later Jay emailed and said my head had shipped. Great service with those guys. Since buying the head, I have bought 2-4x12 straight Recto cabs and they shipped the same day.

Kudo's for MB-Hollywood....

Surely not giving up yet. I pulled the fuse last night and it was that. I am going to see if I can find a replacement today. Does radio shack or a regular hardware store stock those? Anyone know the exact value the fuse is?

Edit to say I picked up a replacement fuse. Put it in, warmed the amp up and turned it on. I was immediately greeted by horrible noise. I was prepared so I quickly put it back on standby. Stuck me head around back and flipped the standby off. I saw some lovely flashing lights in one of the tubes. Powered it down and called my sales guy and asked him to put a replacement set of 6l6's in the mail. Hopefull he got them out today. I would like to play the amp this weekend.
