I would start with adjusting the solo boost knob on the amp. You should be able to dial in a slight boost. If the knob is not letting you adjust in fine increments, then it may be shorted out in the low register, goes straight from nothing to balls out loud.

Don't take the word of some guy on the internet, read that owners manual.

I have it set at about 8 o clock to 9 o clock. It works really well in a gig, jam setting. But alone I never use it except to boost the volume when switching to the middle single coil on my Jem.

Off the top of my head,

If output@8:00 + solo@8:00 = overall@12:00 (equivalent in output)
If output@11:00 + solo@8:00 = overall@12:00

It seems that the solo has a preset volume level higher than the output.
This is why it seems to be way louder when practicing at lower volumes.

If the output is increased, it seems to me like the overall solo volume gets less
dramatic. I'm guessing that I "catch up" to the preset volume as I move the output
volume higher.

With the band last time, I had output set at 11:00 and solo near 12:00 for the desired
boost. I'll check it Saturday night when I play with the mates again.

With that said, the solo can be way to loud to engage when I practice at
low volumes. ymmv.
