Holy Crap! Doc says I need to loose 30-40 pounds! Anyone have a get in shape program for the new year that they are doing?
Hard for me to work out like I used to because of back problems, but this year I have decided to stick with it even though it is not really a New Years resolution type of thing.

Anyone else doing or starting a work out program? What kind?

I am. I weighed 212 in December 2009 and 245 in December 2010. I gained a lot of weight because I was working two jobs and in the last year of grad school. Since Jan 1 I have lost 15 lbs. Mainly eating correct portions of healthy food. No soda. Lots of water and exercise. My rapid gain was because I ate a lot of fast food and had no time to exercise. I never really ate fast food but didn't have a choice for a while because I was busy every minute. Now it's been easy for me because I have always eaten good stuff for the most part. Watching portions has been easier than I thought too. I count my calorie intake daily and plan all of my meals for each day so I budget my calories correctly. I feel a ton better and am starting to see good results. It's falling off of me

swimming is a great exercise. even if you just sit in the water, you are burning calories staying warm in the water. swimming seems like it's good for those who have back problems.

MMMK, I think I am going to do the treadmill lifecycle approach this time. I know I can't do the big iron anymore, which sucks because weights were the only exercise I really like doing, and I did loose 75 lbs before with high rep routine.
I have a feeling this is going to be quite an experience......

P90X

I'm a pretty thin person to begin with but needed to strengthen my mid section after back surgery. After 3 weeks I've noticed a change in my entire body.

Running. I just signed up for a marathon...

Bottom line, count and track your calories. Stay away from fad diets or fad exercise stuff. Eat whole foods, i.e. grains, veggies and fruit. No matter what you do for exercise, if you consume more than you burn, you will gain weight - very very simple concept.

Sticking to a program is tough...

Note that the average male should eat 2000-2200 calories per day and remember one chicken wing has 100 calories...

Good luck with your adventure.

I thought about P90X. Still on the fence. Heck I don't know, maybe do a before and after sticky? I do know that I am giving myself until May to dump the flab!!! And treadmills are still the most boring piece of gear ever invented

I just finished 3 weeks of P90X and it is not boring. I hate running cause it's boring and yes tread mills are the worst. P90X is broken out into 6 different areas and right when it gets routine they change everything.

The ab routine is scheduled for multiple days but because I'm not allowed (doctors orders) I've been skipping those and my abs are still getting worked.

I have been on a eating correct potions and health food diet. Plus exercise. I do 50 pushups, 3 sets of 20 curls on each arm 25 LBS and I run 3 miles a day. Since Jan 1 I have lost 25 LBS. I was drinking an insane amount of soda. I'm only drinking water now as well. I can see muscle definition returning. My doctor isn't concerned about the rapid loss because of my decrease in calories and increase in energy usage it's very possible to lose this fast. I am 30 years old and have always been athletic and active until grad school. That mixed with work and family caused me to gain weight from eating poorly and not being active

I am an obese person who just got into the band of his life! I am 6-2, 285 and I quit soda, white bread, ice cream, big steaks, french fried potatos. I am beginning a work out regimine at an MMA gym of all places... I snack on fruit as much as I can,,, I eat only a bowl of cherrios with skim milk and for the first time of my life... I have to face that my over eating junk food lifestyle was getting the better of me.

my goal is to lose weight and lose this belly. I dont appear obese but Im 85 pounds overweight then I call myself obese.

Stay away from the white stuff that makes us fat. Sugar, flour.... carbs are not allowed in my house and ditch the plastic if you have discipline issues... I do. Im in the best band I have ever been a part of and I have to build stamina for the stage.

Good luck

I'm in shape. Round's a shape....

The Mrs and I have been thinking about P90x.
Considering all of the guilt payments I've set to the health club, its a no brainer...

for the upteenthtime I am, begun last february, already lost 10kgs (20 lbs??). weighting 88kgs now, only 10 to go (im not really a tall guy, im just 1,71m (sorry dont know in feet).

sure have look for whole food and cut the white ****, like flour, bread, carbs and stuff, but what really counts it's the salt/sodium man, it can ruins your life.

Great job!!!! Update on myself I weigh 205 today down from 245 on new years

That's FAST! Are you doing this in a healthy way? They say 1 - 2 lbs a week is best. Oh well, 205 is probably heavier than being 255 like me! I may be 6'3" but that's no excuse!
