So how does this work with the Mesa? Do you run your amp into a loadbox first, or do you use the preamp out for the effects loop? The one I found online says it's meant to work with pedals. Maybe I found the wrong product online

Well, it car work either way depending on your rig. I have an isolation cabinet as well so what I most of the times do is connect both the speaker and the torpedo CAB to this little box http://davidbrayamps.com/lo1.html so I can also run the power amp as well not just the preamp. In case you have a loadbox such as the new torpedo Captor for example, you don't need an iso cabinet to run both the power and the preamp section. Finally, in case you have only the torpedo CAB, then you need to use the power amp simulator.

So is the recording just the Torpedo cab then and not with the iso cab combined, or is the iso cab in there too? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just really impressed by the tone. I've been tweaking for years using plugins and I've never been happy with the results. I think getting a loadbox might be the way to go.

No the iso cab has nothing to do with the tone. It's just serves as a load box!
