Just wanted to know if there was a mod to add a rectifier tube to a single rec or if this is even possible at all? My thing is I love the sound of the dual and triple rec's with the tube rectifier but can not afford them even used ones are out of my money range and I can't see paying $1,000 and up for an amp when I am only playing out once and a while here and there, so i thought if it was possible I would mod my single rec to have a tube rectifier if there was a mod for it or if it is possible to do this and it is too extensive I would have it modded by a tech. Any and all info and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try this: add a resistor in series with the silicon diodes. It would need to be a reasonably high power resistor, and you'd want to get about 20-30 Volts drop when the amp peaks. I'm not sure what the current draw is from the rectified supply, but you would want to figure that out (a tech should be able to figure it out) and multiply peak current x peak voltage drop, then double it for resistor power rating.

You can play with the sag until it feels and sounds the way you want. It should behave quite a bit like a tube rectifier.

It will get hot, so the mechanical mounting will need to be really good.

elvis Thanks I may try this. I am going to ask a friend of mine who repairs amps and does some mods about the rectifier tube thing if it is a no go I will go with your advice.

To add a rectifier tube, you would need to add a 5volt transformer for the filament supply of the rectifier.

You could easily add one of the Weber Copper Caps though. They have several models that will bolt right up to the chassis.
This page has the complete list, which shows how much "Sag" each one will add: http://www.webervst.com/ccap.html
A good tech should be able to install one in under an hour.
