Single Rectifier Queries???

I have recently brought a Single Rectifier 50 Head Series 1 recently and am having a few issues!!

Basically when im playing it at fairly moderate volumes the tone of the amp sounds awsome but when i crank it up really loud the tone totally shifts and it also makes my 4x12 cabinet sound muddy and it also sounds like the Vintage 30 speakers are struggling and the cabinet is vibrating!!!

I have had ideas like modyfiying the cabinet to open back? Would this help??

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas for this??

My gear is follows:
LTD DV-200 Guitar with EMG 81/85
Single Rectifier Solo Head 50 Series 1
Line 6 4x12 closed back cab with Celestion Vintage 30's
Boss CH-4 Pedal

I know this may sound very basic but have you spent alot of time tweaking the treble, bass, presence..stuff like that?

Exactly, (to the above statement)! Some people tend to EQ they're amp for bedroom volumes or solo (alone) practicing, and find when playing louder or within a band context, they're tone is gone! Quite expected! I would'nt suspect anything wrong with your amp, and I would'nt modify your cab! Though, if there is something more, and you think you may have a problem, please explain with more detail, your settings, etc, etc!

Your setup should rock...the Celestions and the EMGs are a great combination with the Boogie. Keep working at it...and don't ignore the manual! There are lots of good "starting points" in there, and the explanation of how the tone stack works may give you a clue about how to get what you're after.

Especially since you likely modded your 4x12 already (the v30s are not stock in the Line6 cab) and v30s are stock in the regular recto cabs which are made for your amp, I would also suggest tinkering with the amp/guitar settings first to come up with what you want. remember the tone chain in the mesa amps is very responsive and keep in mind how they (gain,treble,mid,bass) affect one another (this is all in the manual).

I did a gig last nite (friday) and spent most of the day with the amp cranked loud and just adjusted the settings.

I have found an awsome tone on the Modern setting of the mesa which suits me fine and when cranked its a killer tone.

I also think that i may have had my EMG pickups to high to the strings which was muddying the sound slightly.

Ok guys another question for ya!

is it better to run my effects straight through the input on the front of the amp or to use the effects loop at the back??

im using a Boss Chorus Ensemble and a Marshall Reverb pedal??

I would use the chorus in the loop---Distortion and overdrive in front of the amp.

I always do ---Wah, tuner, overdrive/distortion, phaser in front of the amp
---Chorus, reverb, delay, modulation, pitch etc--in the loop

But that is just me--best to experiment and you will find your tone.

Also about your first question, I have experienced the same thing with my Series I Single Recto

Turn it up super loud and roll the Bass over to 10-11 o'clock, this amp will change drastically when it is cranked.

I also have a guitar with EMG's (EC1000-81-81) and is is crushing through this amp.
