I'm thinking of simplifying my set up down from a Dual Rect to a Rack only system. Im currently using a Rocktron Prophesy II to drive the head but I'm considering picking up a new power-amp from Mesa to make things easier. Any ideas as to which would be a better pick? Is it just a power difference between those or is the Rectifier Stereo more like having a "Dual head" in your rack space?

I guess that would be ideal I suppose. Thanks for any help-

I know someone who uses a Recto rack pre-amp with a Simul 2:95 (older model than 2:90) and it is an awesome combination!

Still gets as heavy a sound as most would want, but is much more versatile, IMO, as it adds a "sweetness" that Simil Class is known for. Also the 2:90 has a few switchable modes that may come in handy. I believe it is more expensive, but you may well find it's worth it!

Good luck :D

Hi,

From your post, I am assuming you want to put the Rocktron Prophesy in front of the power amp. I do not know that preamp, so it is hard to tell how it would sound with either preamp. However, I have a recto pre, and I have tried it with both the 2:90 and the 2:100. With the 2:90 you get a smoother less aggressive sound, even with modern mode switched on. With the 2:100, the recto pre gives you all big heavy chunk you could want. For the recto pre, I like the 2:100 better. Also, the clean channel on the recto pre is very nice, and sounds great with the 2:100. Lots of head room.

So the "Recto Pre" 2 100 is all you need to drive your 4x12 if your running it soley for power with the Porphesy driving the amp, is this correct? I saw on Mesa's site that there was a 2 100 power amp AND a recto pre-amp for recording? Im confused as to which your talking about using in the type of set up I want.

Hi,

The recto pre for recording is also a preamp for live use as well, just like the triaxis, studio pre, etc.. Its partner is the 2:100 power amp. You would be substituting your Rocktron Prophesy for the recto pre: Rocktron Prophesy into the 2:100 and the 2:100 drives your 4X12. However, if the Phrophesy is not stereo, it is a waste to use the 2:100, which is stereo. You will also need two 4x12s, but you can run the 2:100 in mono, but again your wasting 4 tubes.
