I have been experiencing a strange buzzing noise for a brief period immediately following turning on the power switch on my 3 ch. dual rec head. The amp seems to be working just fine, but it's a little discomforting to hear an almost electrical buzzing every time I fire it up. Don't know if anyone has had this problem or knows what it is... If this helps, I'm not running stock mesa tubes in the power section. I have 4 GT 6L6s (what the amp had when I bought it), running tube rectifier mode on spongy. Now, I haven't actually tried powering up on bold mode or with the diode rectifiers since the noise started, so one of those could potentially be an issue. Not sure. ANy help would be great. Thanks!

Not to deny any of the credibility of your answer, but this only recently started happening. It's not consistent either. Sometimes it's short and happens right away, and sometimes it's long and it delayed a second or two after powering on. I just figure if it's a normal thing, it should have been happening all along, and I wasn't aware the dual rec head even had a fan.

The Single, Dual, and Triple Rectifiers don't have a fan in them. I believe the Roadsters, Mark series, and the Road King do though.

What you're hearing is probably the power transformer. They tend to do that. Mine makes a noise when I first fire it up, but it's more of a "nnnggg" sound.

It's nothing to worry about.

my dual did/does this. its something to do with the footswitch. if you turn it on with the footswitch unplugged or off via the switch at the back it should power on without the noise.

My Dual did this when I had EL34s in it. Swapped the 6L6s back and it was gone. Never seemed to cause a problem so I didn't worry much.

my dual rectifier makes the same "nggg" noise as someone mentioned above i guess its just noise the transformer makes when you turn the amp on...

yeah my dual did this right from day 1, and I figured well if the thing works the way I want it too, and hasn't blown up yet, then I don't really care too much what the noise is...
