Hey everyone! I couldn't find a suitable forum so I figured I'd throw this question in here. I'm a relatively new guitarist and have gotten A LOT out of this board so I definitely appreciate all of the help you've provided in the past (especially troubleshooting the preamp tube problem I had a few months back).

This brings me to my question. Since I'm a rookie, I did something stupid and bought the Stiletto Trident Series I head for my basement (insert jokes here). I obviously don't need the power this beast can put out but I LOVE this amp when I can crank it. I have two kids, 4 and 2, and just don't have the opportunity to crank this thing as much as I want.

So, I'm not positive I'm putting it out on Ebay but it's the way I'm leaning right now. What's the best way to estimate shipping on the Trident head? I know UPS has an estimator but I can't find weight stats for it. For those of you that have sold either the Stiletto Deuce or Trident, can you tell me what your shipping costs were?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Check out the shipping costs on a Triple rec or something on ebay , its got to be similar . If you want the exact weight just call Mesa

That's what I always do....see what others are shipping it for, and take the higher end just to be safe....if it costs me significantly less, I refund the money to the buyer.

To save on packaging, get it from work or another business. Get a big enough box and plenty of foam or such and save $10 or so. Stuff some newspaper or such between the tubes. Usually the shipping cost of items on ebay do not often appear to include packaging cost. Though a head is cheaper, a combo or cabinet is always going to cost more than expected.

Is a THD Hotplate or similar an option or do you need to feel the hairs on your arm move?

If you really like the amp, that is an option. If you stiil have to sell good luck!

Awesome suggestions guys and I really appreciate it.

That's an excellent point and one I'm really considering. There seems to be quite a bit of Stiletto Series One bashing out there but I'm one of those that really likes the amp (when I can crank it). Not that I'm capable of playing the songs up to speed but Platypus helped me dial in a 70's Van Halen tone and I instantly fell in love with it. Problem is, my wife and kids aren't out of the house enough to really crank it. Maybe the hotplate is the answer after all.

Sure! No problem! All the credit goes to Platypus though!

Second channel, middle switch for gain (think it's tite gain? not sure), tube rectifiers, 50 watts, keep the presence and treble both below 12oclock on the dial, anything higher is too trebly, mids around 10- 11 o clock, bass around 12 or 1 depending on your tastes. Use a high output humbucker and crank the output control, volume around 10:30-11:00. Gain not too high, start at 12 and work your way up to no more than 2 o clock

Off the top of my head here like I said, that should get you in the ballpark, refine based on your guitar's sound, speakers, etc.

thanx, thats pretty much what i have now.i have to back down the gain a bit
i also use spongy

this should probaly be moved to plats stiletto settings thread.
