Ahoy peeps!

Currently I have this rocking Gibson SG Standard cherry wood guitar and I love it! I was wondering if any of you have a Schecter guitar. I've heard great things about the brand, and I wanted to see if any of you guys have one!

I th ink Schecters are toys when you compare them with real pro guitars.

The Schecter company is a marketing juggernaut....but their products are (on the high end) mediocre.

totally agree with Rocky. I had a Schecter Blackjack 7 and it was a toy if you compared with a good Gibson. Not so bad for the money that i paid but it is in the middle-low range. I sold long time ago and i dont miss her

Depends on the model and how well they are set up. I've played schecters set up really well that sound and play amazing, but also played some that feel like toys. Gibsons are the same way. Most guitars are the same way. It depends what you're looking for in a guitar, how you like the neck to play, what tones you like, the pickups, etc. The biggest difference is going to be the price, and how much you have to "upgrade" a guitar to get what you want out of it.

We have 2 Schecter guitars & sold a family friend on a 3rd. They are an OUTSTANDING value. You just get a huge feature-set with build quality to boot. I am quite impressed with the fit & finish; the value is just phenomenal. They're 25% the cost of a comparable PRS. Schecter guitars are simply beautiful with sustain to die for.

My C1 Classic was $700 & has the neck-through body, Mother of Pearl Vine of Life inlay all up the fretboard, & authentic Seymour Duncan pickups with a 5-way selector. It came with Grover tuners, graphite nut, binding, authentic Seymour Duncan (JB SH-4 & Jazz SH-2n) pickups, neck-through with string through a Tune-O-Matic bridge with through body sustain, hand-figured quilted maple top, smooth bindings, & a sculpted body. My son's Hellraiser sports the EMG (81/85) active pickups & a set neck for $650.

I experience one odd thing with my Classic though, it goes 1 semitone fret sharp overnight which I've never seen before. I wonder if this may be indicative of the truss-rod being to tight or loose. I live the Northwest (Washington) & it is starting to get a bit cold. She stays in tune during my playing sessions but I'd still like to get a handle on it. The action & intonation is dead-nuts on.. it must be the temp swings, what do you think?

Agile looks strikingly close to Schecter. I'd like to A/B them. Their feature sets seem similar. Those Koreans can make 'em.

from my experience (c-1 classic) shcecters feel way better...so i play better. comfortability allows you to what you want. not having to fight to reach upper frets or move with that anchor strapped to your body. the only downside are the cheap electronics but if you just replace the pots the thing comes alive. i had a les paul for a month and returned it for a c-1 which i owned for years

A lot of the price difference has to do with wages and benefits paid to employees. That makes up about half the difference and the rest is Gibson knowing that they can charge out the derrierre for their name. My theory on Gibson is I'd rather have a Hamer.

a high quality gibson will beat out the best of schecter. But the best of shecter may or may not beat the mediocracy (sp?) of gibson.

i have a buddy who bought a 7 string diamond schecter from a pawn shop. Very dull sounding, and the neck even moves a bit. However this was with him playing and it was used, looks it too.

i have a c-1 classic and used to also have a c-1 e/a with the piezo and stuff
i sold the ea because i decided not to upgrade the lame pickups becasue a semihollow wasnt really for me, but the guitar itself unplugged sounded great. the c-1 classic i still have but am going to sell soon (i bought a PRS thats 24 fret and is nicer.) personally i think htey are much better than the gibsons i have played, very good fit and finish, great build quality, and good unplugged tone (didnt care for the jb/jazz combo) and the electronics are crummy, i replaced the 5-way switch with a 3 way, their five way is garbage compared to PRS's. id say between gibson and schecter, most likely schecter, but then you can also get a used prs CE between $900-1400, and thats what i did, i now have 2 CE 24s
i hope this helped

i looked at the prs's, but if you read threw the FAQ on there site the stop tailpiece wasn't designed for 11's so you have to buy a different bridge. Which i have no idea how much they cost.

My .02 cents on Schecters: I have a C-1 Elite that I bought used but in mint condition. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now it's my prefered guitar in my collection. That's comparing it to an Ibanez 1570 Prestige (by a long shot), an Epiphone Les Paul (still a decent player), and an old Kramer Focus 6000 (yes, a Kramer). I'm pretty much sold on Schecter guitars at this point and, yes, they really are a nice value. I like mine so much, I told my bassist last week that if I even suggest I want to change the pickups, slap me. Slap me real hard.

they're good guitars for the price i guess. lots of bang for the buck. BUT... have you ever heard of somebody saying, "yeah, when i recorded that track i was going for that classic schecter sound"

like it or not, the benchmarks ARE your strats, les pauls, and teles.

to me benchmarks are things to improve on. les pauls are old, not bad (tonewise), just old ive never played a gibson that made me feel expressive playing it. as soon as i found out it was mahogany/maple top and not gibson that i liked, i ditched the les paul.

If you stay in the C-1 line, I think they are good. My most recent guitar was a C-1 Hellraiser FR. They are mohogany/mohogany w/ set necks that look and feel like neck throughs. It weighs in at around 11 lbs; I'm guessing but it feels slightly lighter than my LP which is 12 lbs.

I have an Epi LP that I put SD JB and Jazz pups in, and I didn't think the C-1 Classic sounded quite as good, but I love LP's. So I got this one with the active EMGs to cover more aggressive metal sounds. It does this very well. It has a great neck, low action, real Floyd and rounds out my tonal range of guitars...it looks pretty cool too.

I have a 1960 reissue Les-Paul from the Gibson Custom Shop, and a C-1 Classic, as well as many others but these are my fav 2. I am torn between both of these guitars. I would prolly lean towards my Classic because it is more versatile and anyone saying anything about a Paul being the benchmarks... I think many would agree players make the benchmarks and the pauls, strats are just the standards.

There is my Classic I think the tone is nice and very versatile.

**DOH** just saw this thread was from 08! sorry for the bump... I found this forum over google and play thru a Dual Recto so figured I would join! hahaha

I have an equivalent:

Hyundai vs Caddy

so...hyundai is a company with a couple of the best new cars and one of the few growing auto manufacturers while gm is bankrupt and producing dated products? i dont disagree (in fact spot on) with that but it seems like thats not what you meant

A Hyundai is still held in much lower regard than a Caddy. I could have used a higher end car maker but I dont think Gibson is a TRUE high end guitar maker....much like caddy they look the part but are lacking. To me the only proper product coming out of Gibson on a regular basis is the Custom shop stuff.

nobody cares how things are regarded...at least they shouldnt. its a valid argument that it would be stupid to find a schecter haning up on a collectors wall where a gibson would a staple. but your comparing gibsons custom shop to schecters mass production models. check out the custom shop at schecter to find an accurate comparison or look on the lowend and see what happens. dollar for dollar schecter wins in my book
