all of the falcons this year, were names after famous aviators.

Amelia Earhart

Sally Ride

and charles lindberg

when they hit the ground (they fly to the ground) they are gently retrieved, checked for health and happiness, banded (at which time it is determined whether it is male or female, based on the width of a part of the shinbone), and receive a name.

then the team attempts to keep all of them in view as they're released at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (where they fledged from), so we know who they are (what to expect, and to document their fledging)

all of the birds have gone to ground 3 times now, EXCEPT charlie, who is a rock star.

3 falcons in the nest box before fledging:

the results for the necropsies done on the two birds, Bird #1 Amelia and Bird #2 Sally:

“There was no sign of infectious disease in either bird.

The lab saw evidence that both birds suffered from a huge fall.

Bird number 1 had a ruptured crop that led to a bacterial infection as well as a bruised heart.

Bird number 2 was extremely emaciated and the crop/intestines were completely empty.

The second bird also had a contusion on the top of the head attributed to a large fall.”

ha!

yes, we've seen rockstar charlie..

he's doing real well.

and Bobbie, the original worry, was very slow to get up to speed, but finally got there.

both 'kids' have found new territories now, we don't know where, but we still catch glimpses of the two young birds flying in the parent bird's territory, i guess the parent's don't get too bent out of shape, but they don't share these feeding areas, and downtown is pretty locked up by the momma and daddy falcon.

saw momma falcon on the top of the church office building, just last night.
