I'm thinking about experimenting with running 2 amps in stereo. I'm thinking about splitting my signal with some sort of stereo pedal out of the effects loop in my MKIII and running the other signal into the "return" of my MK IIb's effects loop, bypassing the Mk IIb's preamp section altogether & driving both amps power section with the MK III. The pedals that I have available to split the signal with is a Boss DD-3 digital delay, an Ibanez DCF-10 digital stereo chorus/flanger, & a vintage EH Clone Theory.
I would normally just go ahead & spend hours twidling knowbs & trying different pedals & just share the results with everyone, but I have a safety concern: Many years ago I attempted try stereo using my Mk IIb and an old silverface Vibro-Champ that I had at the time, with my Boss DD-3. Everytime I would touch the Vibro-Champ, i would get a shock. It wasn't enough the hurt me, but it was just enough to abandon any desire to try running stereo since then. I never had any problems getting shocked with the Vibro-Champ when I'd play it by itself, & the same with the Mk IIb. Could it have been a bad ground in one of the amps? I don't recall if the Vibro Champ had a 3 prong ground plug on it or not. Would plugging both amps into the same plugin via a power strip make a difference? My EH pedal can only be powered using the power cord that is attached to it, which does not have a 3 prong ground plug on it. Is using this pedal potentially hazardous?
I also have concerns with noise generated by any ground loop interference. I do have a Rocktron Superhush C that would take out any buzz from ground loops, but I would prefer to try to have as much of a noise free sound to begin with as possible.
Out of the 3 pedals which one would be the best one to split the signal with? Is there any better pedals out there to split the signal up with? I've been considering maybe trying to aquire an old Quadraverb or a SPX-90 or maybe even a Lexicon rack unit to play around with too.
My main concern is playing with this without getting fried. But I'm also eager to hear some other peoples experience & advicde as to how to get some really cool stereo sounds too.
Thanks!
