Running fx in a preamps fx loop vs. running before power amp

Is there any advantage to runing one way over the other? I never saw a point in using a preamps fx loop but now i am reading a lot of rack users around here say they use the fx loop. Why?

I run my multivalve and intellifex the same way you do in series, I didn't care much for the tone with it in the loop.

As far as why, I think it depends on what sounds good to you.

I've got two rack systems- a 2:100/ rectifier preamp setup, and a 50/50/studio preamp setup- with both, i didn't like the sound quality when i used the fx loops. I thought everything sounded better when i went from preamp to eventide to power amp..
