I just switched from SED winged C EL34s to a quad of Ruby Tubes EL 34 BHTs - what an improvement - they seem to sound even better/fuller in the Mark V's poweramp than the SEDs.

Does anyone else here use them? Opinions?

Interesting! I've been using a somewhat cheap Chinese EL34B sold as Ruby. Do you think they are the same? Here's the link.

They sure sound fine for me. Way better than the stock 6L6s for the type of sound I was looking for. I can't imagine what an other brand would have over those. Especially if you read their reviews (somewhat oldish though).

Nope - that's a EL34 B STR ("special tube request" In this case, the grid is gold plated.) and they are different from the EL34 B HT (high tension).

The EL 34 B HT is able to take 600 volts DC on the plates - similar to the old Electro Harmonix 6CA7.

I was surprised how good they sound and if they are reliable, I will not look back anymore.
It seems the expensive SEDs will become my spare tubes for the cheap Ruby tubes... LOL
