Took the advice of a chap on another board, and dropped a Tung Sol in V1 on my Rectoverb 25 head. Wow. Smooths out the sound, and makes all modes (especially modern) a lot quieter. Maybe it's in my head, but the amp just feels more organic and dynamic, when compared to an identical ROV at the shop I work at PT.

I recommend giving it a go; I think you'll dig it.

I have been kicking around the idea of a retune for my rectoverb 25 head. Doug at dougstubes.com really helped me out with my roadster which has the tung sol in V1. Are you planning on replacing any other tubes as well?

I also use TS in V1, plus Mullard EL84. Good stuff.
How do the Mullard 84's hold up? I've had bad luck with every brand of 84 I've tried, I assume because the Mesa EL84 amps are biased so dang hot. Only JJ's have not been consumed by the fire. But I haven't tried Mullards yet. Very curious.....
