Roadster Tone Problem -- Need Help

I have a Roadster 2X12 completely stock and a LP classic and am not satisfied with the tone I get; meaning, I have a very "metallic" tone. I was wondering if anyone can share with me their settings for a Social Distortion or NOFX sound? I know it is because I don't have the settings right, but getting quite frustrated with the amp since I can't seem to get that smooth distorted sound or I get too much distortion.

Which version of the LP Classic do you have??

I have a 2005 Gibson LP Classic 1960s with 496R and 500T pickups (uncovered)... just the standard run of the mill,

I had a V with that combo in it and I wasn't into the tone at all and I ended up selling it although I loved the guitar prior to getting my Roadster. LP Classics are different animals from a V though, great guitars.

I was recently in the studio and was messing with the tone and I ended up lowering the gain from about 1oclock to about 9-10oclock for recording purposes and found a great tone there. Lowered the treble from about 1 to 9 as well keeping the bass and mids from 10-12 with presence lowered on Ch 4 Modern. Could try that...

Get off of Channel 4 with the LP...don't even use it. Try Channel 3 with MODERATE gain either on vintage or modern, put the mids at 10.5 oclock, and run a TS808 before the preamp. Be very careful with the presence knob and use the BOLD power setting. Also, check to see if you are using the silicon diodes, because that will contribute more to a treble, mid, and presence cranked metallic tone. The TS808 doesn't need to have the gain cranked either. Just put the gain at 1/4, the tone at noon, and the volume pushed to 3/4. It will even out the tone and give you more sustain. I also recommend putting a noise gate before the TS808.

i have a roadster as well, although i do like the metallic sound i get out of it, i do find the ch3 a bit more bright and clearer sounding, i use a TS9 and with ch3 i use the setting on the manual for hot liquid solo, which gives me a nice crunchy sound. i do find it really good when the gain is between 11 and 1 range. hope this helps cuz roadsters are awesome and it would suck if it doesn't work out for you.

So you telling me that I should put a tube screamer thru the input in order to get a good distortion and the hot liquid soloing? Wouldn't that make it really crunchy? I know I was using ch 3 & 4 heavily, so I will try just using the first 3 channels. Please give me any more thoughts you have.

What they are saying is use a Screamer in front of the amp and turn the gain down on the amp. The distortion level is aound the same with the pedal kicking in some to tighten things up. I do the same with my Dual (BBPreamp) and turn the gain about 11:00 or noon on the amp. Makes a big difference in the Recto circut in tone and feel. Also check out the lower gain modes on channel 2 with a pedal, really gets into the SD tones
