I bought a Roadster head a year ago here in the U.S. and shipped the amp to Nicaragua (where I live). The reverb all of a sudden stopped working and of course I have the common channel switch pop that will never go away.

I want to bring it back to the states to send it over to Mesa. The problem is that the only way I can bring it to the U.S. is if I get the chassis out of the head shell and check it in at the airport or bring it onboard with me.

I cannot check anything over 70lbs and the amp (with headshell) + ATA case = around 80-90lbs

I have the option to check in only the chassis in a suitcase full of clothes or and bubble wrap or try to bring it onboard with me.

Will they even let me take that thing on board?

Will Mesa even take only the chassis?

Or just forget about it and live with the broken reverb and channel pops.

What should I do? What would you do?

Well the first thing you should do is make sure the wires to the reverb tank havent come lose. Just give them a little push and twist and make sure they are plugged in good. If that isnt it then check/replace the V4 preamp tube. it is the reverb drive and return. ( 4th from the left when looking in the back).

As for the footswitch popping, This happens on my dual rec as well as my Roadster. I always just cycle thru the channels a few times while its warming up in standby mode. It normally takes care of the static build up.

Good luck and I hope this helps you out.

all preamp tubes have been replaced. also all power tubes.
what you mentioned doesnt stop the popping. i know there is another roadster owner here (forgot his name) that also gets channel popping no matter what.

Do I have to unscrew the headshell to check the wires? I don't really know which wires I should be checking btw...

I'm such a tube amp noob

really? American Airlines. I will call them. Last time I asked it was 50lbs max and over 50 lbs = $50 additional fee. Nothing over 70lbs even if you pay.

thats because american is quite possibly the worst airline out there.... their fleet is the oldest of all the airlines and i seriously i think about renewing faith everytime i get stuck on one of their planes.... continental or delta is the way to go.... none the less i'd call the airline, explain the information and see if they can help you out
