Hi All,

I have a Road King II. I love the amp for its sound a versatility. I play mostly worship music and other times I play 70's, 80',s and 90's rock. After spending some time on this forum, everyone says that you need some type of overdrive before the amp. I have been noticing latley that the sounds are kinda of mushing together. How do you get the articulated sounds like everyone else gets. I am using a FullDrive 2 in front. My settings around vol=12, tone=4, and overdrive around 11. Am I using the wrong pedal or are my settings wrong. I use mostly channel 3 with the 6L6 tube in. Gain is around 12 and the tone is all about 3 with the mid cut back a little bit. I just got a Boss GE-7 to see if that would help. Any suggestions out there guys. Am I looking at a retube or rethinking my pedals.

Thx

Most everyone will tell you, the best pedals are either the maxon 808 or the ibanez TS9. If you want to spend more there are other companies with higher price pedals that sound good too.

Personaly I prefer the TS9 Reissue because it ad's some mid's to the rectifiers where the 808 is more clear and doesnt add much at all.

On my TS9 i set it like this.

Drive at 0
Tone around 11 oclock
Level maxed.

I mostly use channel 3 as my crunch channel. The master is at 10:00, gain at 12:00, tone about 3 with the mids cut a little, presence at 11:00 with 2 6L6 tubes in. I would like to get a more Vox type of sound from either 1 or 2. I had a really nice tone at one point but my kids messed with the amp pretending that they were in a recording studio. Thx.

Mushed together?

Is this amp new? maybe you have tube trouble, it does'nt seem like a pedal issue because this amp needs nothing more than a clean pickup boost. You ever change your own tubes? I have a Roadking1 and I changed the preamp tubes and it helped alot.

I bought it used from GC so I don't know how many hours are on this amp. What I am I looking for or listening for when the tubes need to be changed? This is my first Mesa Boogie. My last tube amp was Laney LC-50. Only had 5 tubes total. It was easy to change out.

thx.

Crap sound like a sloppy gain or a flurry of low end that sounds like a wet fart coming out of the speakers.... Bad tone !
