Hi,
Just an update on the amp I mentioned in my last post. My friend did an amazing job of re-covering the carcase in black Levant.
In addition the mods I mentioned in my last post ('drive' mod, adjustable bias and a pentode/triode switch), I treated the amp to a 3 spring Accutronics tank to replace the mini tank fitted inside the amp chassis. This has greatly improved the reverb.
I installed a matched pair of TAD 6L6GC output valves, biased to 70%; replaced V1, which hummed, with a 'Harma' ECC83 (Watford Valves' own label performance selected valve) and the 12AT7 in V4 with a NOS RCA/Phillips. The amp is now completely hum-free and is whisper quiet.
I'm really pleased with the results and this will be my main gigging amp from now on, alongside a self built KT66 powered Marshall 1987 clone
regards,
Trev
