Rectoverb distorts badly when reverb on - ???

I have a Rectoverb head, and when I turn the reverb on - the signal gets nasty and distorted. Would that be a tube? Is there a reverb tube in these things? What else could that be?

check the cable to and from the reverb tank. Twist them at the connections. Sometimes they make bad connections. These are the source of many reverb noise problems, wll at least with me.

There is no tube reverb circuit.
