Hi guys,
I recently bought a mint rectoverb50 combo. I've had numerous Boogies in the past, and the price was just right on this one so I couldn't pass it up, parallel loop and all. I understand the reason Mesa puts them in, but I'm more of a series loop guy.
I just wanted to assure those searching/questioning, "Should I do the mod? Will it work on a series 1? Will my DSP sound better? How much better?" The answers are
YES!x3, and "A hell of a lot better." If your recto is like mine, the best tone with the parallel loop, was with the mix knob at 10%, or all the way to the left. This also provided the loudest output. With the series loop, it's that sound PLUS all of the great reverbs and delays from the TC and the ability to mix in as much or as little as you'd like.
Like alot of you, I have a GMajor and a Lexicon unit as a backup. The TC would work halfheartedly and the Lexicon was awful. After the mod, it sounds great with either one. The only downside is that tomorrow, I'm going to buy a GForce and a Ground Control.
If you're doing it yourself, great, but I saved my amp tech the trouble and took the chassis out before I brought it to him. His soldering skills are much better than I and I simply brought him the diagram Mesa sent me. It's the same one circulating here and although it says "Series 2" on it, Mesa told me it's the same for Series 1.
Hope this helps...
