When comparing Recto Recording Preamp + 2:100 RectoPreamp vs. Triple/Dual Rectifier I find the rack solution to be ALOT brighter then the usual rectifer. The 2:100 Rectifier poweramp sound identical to the poweranp section in a dual/triple rectifer but It seems like the Rectifier Recording preamp is the one that makes it brighter then a usual rectifier.

Conclusion: Rectifier recording preamp is alot brighter then the preamp section in a rectifier head.

Anyone else noticed this?

Maybe, i never noticed.I've tried the roadster head two weeks ago, i noticed a light difference in the sound i cannot put my figner on. Maybe that's about what you said on the brightness. I have svetlana tubes in my 2:100(i bought it used) so i can't tell with precision but I already tried the the recto and 2:100 with stock tubes with two cabs at 8ohms(few months ago) just i know there is more bass in the sound than a 2:100 with the svetlana that actually have more mid-bass sound so more attack, less rounder or muddy sound.

P.s. if you're right about the brightness then too good for me! I like to decrease the presence and increase the treble a little. It allow the mid to blend into bass, it sound heavy without harshness. A good compromise to use the vintage mode as a third channel without a muddy sound cause low presence + high bass (knob)=muddy sound... ...To the recto's owner here's my setting: gain 1:30, treble 1:45, mid 10o'clock, bass 9:30, presence a little under 9 o'clock, master volume about 10 (depend on your taste, decrease gain, push the master or the opposite)...for the moment i only have one cab(4ohms) so i put the output a 9o'clock.

Also, with the Rectifier Preamp + 2:100 rectifier preamp, the precence controls seems to be disabled when using the rectifier inputs on the 2:100...is this a common thing, or is my amp faulty?

Yeah, but that's not all to plug the recto ouput in the rectifier 2:100 input. You have to link both by recto pre's ext.trigger to modern(on power amp). If it wasn't there then you didn't really hear what the recto pre is capable of cause with that link you bypass the 2:100 volumes and presence and control by the recto pre with the switching between the vintage and modern mode of course (by the solo option on footswitch or by hand).

Yeah, shure...i've allways connected the modern trigger between the preamp and the poweramp to engage the modern-voicing in the poweranp too...

So, not only the volume controlls on the poweramp is disabled this way, but the precense controlls too, am I right, cause right now they don't do anything to the sound, so I'm just wondering if the 2:100 poweramp is broken or if its suposed to be working like that?

This is normal if it's not working on the power amp, it's bypassed. But are you able to change the presence by the recto pre? I would be suprised if it's not working...maybe the problem is the recto pre not the 2:100. Do you have the manual? If you don't have it go to the mesa website...
