I bought a new toy - ESP KH-2 (Kirk Hammett model) last week end.

I modified original EMG-81 pickups circuit with adding a new battery and
connecting those 9 volts batteries into "series" (become 18volts).

This change have tighten and cleaned up my Solo-50 hi-gain sound. :D

Any Recto fans tried this before and how do you feel :?:

I never even new you could do that...

I use this guitar...

Love them ESPs....
EMG 81/60

Can you talk in detail about 'how' you actually did the mod? Where did you pick this trick up anyway?

Thanks,
David.

I run all my EMGs at 18v. I find you get more dynamics in the pick attack.

Buy a battery clip from Radio Shack, and solder it in so that red is connected to black, and black to red.

Here's the ghetto, no solder method....

EMG + Mesa is pretty hard to argue with

Ive got some more expensive guitars, but my main battle axe is a viper400 w/ emg81s. Who needs processors when you can have emgs?

beautiful ESP btw,
Im thinking of buying a eclipse in vintage black

Thanks, I like her as well. I had the chance for a new Gibson Les Paul, but after weighing it all out, and my needs (ie. heavy tone), the ESP won. I may look into Gibbos next, but they have to do something about the quality of them standards first.

Interesting comment, thats a few times ive heard people comment on EMG's "processed sound". I may be playing with too much gain way too often to really feel that processed sound, Ill have to pay attention tonight at jam.

Of course, if thats what you meant...!..?

David.

They do have a "processed sound"

and who says thats a bad thing? When you look at guys who have gates, and compressors, and what not in their FX loop... why is that ok but EMGs arent?

Makes no sense.

BTW, even if you toss EMGs in a Gibby, it sounds nothing like an Eclipse.

hey guys. how about the LTDs?
i need a second guitar but cant make up my mind over a faded sg special, or an ltd eclipse.....
what do you guys think?

The LTD EC-1000 Is supposed to be one helluva good guitar for the buck. The Lower end LTD stuff is good too, just lower end. Check out the Ec-1000 i havnt heard any complaints yet.

Of course the eclipseII would be a better option. :p

David.

I've got an Eclipse II as well, but I've got the Duncan pups, and this thing wails.

Do you use anything special to clean yours?

Nice ESP dude, wow, i didnt mean for this to be the ESP thread, woops. I would love to own one of those see-thru-black custom EclipseII as well as yours.

I dont use anything special. I have a proper cloth for wood, and i use a drop of polish every now and then.

But I always wipe the guitar down after every use.

hey guys...i am going to get a mesa amp soon and i'm having troubles deciding wich one...its between a single/dual rectifier, or a mark iv....but i was wondering what the differences are between the different amps in the mark series...also, i'm getting a new guitar after the amp and that's either going to be an ltd mh-400nt or a schecter hellraiser c-1 (both of which are equipped with emg's) i play different types of rock and recently have been getting more into metal, so i would need good cleans and good distortion. if any of you could recommend a guitar or amp, that would greatly be appreciated....

p.s. sorry for long post

I always thought EMGs sounded weak on my Boogie amps, lacking the warmth, sustain, harmonics, and expressiveness I get with passives (Tom Anderson & DiMarzio). On my 7-string, the EMGs do sound better for low, distorted chords, because there is so much clarity where passives tend to get muddy. But for lead work and clean sounds I think the passive pickups have something the EMGs lack.

I don't notice this using EMGs with other equipment. In fact, they sound great with a Vox Tonelab SE, so it's not that I prefer passives in general - I just don't like the way my Boogie gear responds to EMGs.

That said, I'm curious if there's some way to modify the signal from the EMGs to give them more life when matched to Mesa Boogie preamp inputs. Does increasing the battery voltage really do anything?

Great Metal/Hardrock sound...

EMG + Rectifier series.

Ive been playing along time, and Ive had my gear several weeks now, im just starting to get familiar with the potential of my TriRec. Regarding EMG, I felt they helped with the clean tones. Its a good pick-up, definatley if your getting heavy.

Im not sure if boosting your voltage to 18 is a big help, but the guys posted here believe it does.

David.

I loooooooooove my LP studio w/ EMGs on my dual. It has something that my Custom just doesnt. I also boost my signal with a TS9. Yummy.

I love my EMGS!!! I always wanted them and when i bought my viper-400 i was in heaven!
