A member here just picked up an original IICX for $1850 and recently another member picked another one for under $2000. Why is this one worth at least $3000????

Just because a few people scored deals does not mean this HRGX is not worth it.
A few people who know what they have are not letting others brow beat them
due to a recession. If it's not worth the money to you, fine, pass on it and allow the market to play itself out.
The final price will be determined between the seller and a serious buyer. Everyone today thinks that
they have the god given right to devalue amps with no good reason. Just because nothing, and I mean nothing
is worth anything today, does not mean that collectors mind stealing an amp like this and sitting on it until better days.
In the end, it's still between the buyer and seller. If this amp popped up a few years ago, the serious buyers would be clamoring
to back door it at the price it's at now or higher. We are still dealing with a small lot of about 1900 amps here, not in the vicinity of
15,000 MK III's or 25,000 MK IV's. It's not a bad thing to sit on either. I just heard of a Dumble ODS selling locally for 50K.
So much for a crap economy !!!!

Right on, Ed. To those with money, there are no crap economies, and they will be willing buy what they want at whatever price. A bad economy may force those on the "lower end" of the economic spectrum to forego purchases until better times, thus temporarily reducing the number of bona-fide buyers. But one thing for sure: quality will always command a price.

I don't think this post devalues the amp. It is worth what it will be sold for.

I do think posting the amp for a starting bid of $3200 is outrageous and reading the listing made me laugh, as the title of this post suggests. This ebay posting just perpetuates the myth that the iic+ is truely the holy grail of tone when eveyone knows that tone is in the ear of the beholder and at the hands of the mixer and player. Just MHO of course. :D

Are you saying a IIC export or a C+ export, because those proces for a IIC would justify the $3,200 pricetag for an original C+ export.

nothing justifies $3200... i dont care if the pope blessed it... thats just a ripoff
I can't say I disagree. I was referring to the market prices, not whether it's worth those prices. Frankly, I wouldn't pay $3,200 for an amp either. Luckily for me I got my loaded export simul C+ (upgrade from IIA) for about half that, which seemed like a reasonable premium to own a C+. For me, a 52 year old guy who has lived most of his life by the principles of deferred gratification, it was time for some instant gratification. After all, you can't take it with ya!

Frank, did your export C+ come from south Georgia?

Non-Simul, no GEQ, but a nice wood/wicker cab. Worth? I'd say $2,400 to $2,800. What will it go for nowadays? I'll predict $1,800 to $2,200.

Ever notice those that rant about a C+ not being worth it are those that have never played one. They speak from inexperience, yet claim amongst other things, that a C+'s reputation is nothing more than a myth, and all sorts of other crap. It just amazes me to hear this inexperienced opinionated garbage over and over again.

If you've not been to the mountain top, nothing, not great prose, pictures, video, recorded sound will ever be a substitute for you actually climbing up there yourself and experiencing it for yourself.
If you ain't been to the mountain top you got no right to say anything about what it's like to be there, whether it's worth making the trip to be there, etc etc. You got no right Because You Just Don't Know......

I become more of a believer every day, well said George!

Anyone else want to chime in on the value? Is it true that the non eq versions are more desirable or sound better?

The EQ option would draw more bidding, as would the Simulclass option. You could plan on an additional $500-$700 in bids if it had the other options. If it were a DRGX, there would be a feeding frenzy on Ebay. IMO

No. But again, this is just my opinion. 8)

Hard to say whether it's "better or worse" as that is subjective. However, having the eq provides more tonal possibilities.

lol.

To me, I've found what I think is the best amp already - but that's to me. I went to the marshal forum and many claim the jcm 800 is the grail tone and I owned an '83 head and I liked it a lot, but I still sold it. So again, how can the iic+ be the end all amp in tone when I may have a different opinion on tone than you? I guess all I'm saying is posting an amp for $3200 is outrageously funny even if the seller believes hype and knows the best mountain to climb.

I don't think he's saying it's the "end all" amp or the height of perfection with the mountain top allegory. I believe George is saying that those who "pooh-pooh" the C+ are usually those who have not played one. Or more generally, how can one truly judge value, worth or beauty (in his example, the view from the mountain top) if they haven't experienced it for themselves?

You don't justify a valid argument why it's not worth the asking price and your tasteless religious jabs give you even less credibility.
If you want to take a piss on the IIC+ please at least explain your position, but don't expect much support from this community.

I'm happy for you. Good for you, you found your tone. Nobody is claiming they are the be all and end all for everybody.

Dude fwiw worth it ain't all about tone that makes the C+ what it is.....

Go read this recent thread (started yesterday!!)

and read the first post in this thread too

At least TRY to have an understanding before talking smack.....

The seller (a board member here) has owned four C+'s.
That's a lot of experience with these amps.
How many C+'s have you owned and or played?

Wow, ok, I'll open the door for you, the only mark I've ever owned or played is the v.

I can't believe you think I'm talkin smack though. I suppose you wont be the first one to chime in if I have a troubleshooting question.

It is not the be-all-end-all amp for everyone. I know a guy who has owned 2 or 3 C+ Boogies (previous long time MkIII user)that still prefers the MkIII for live use. That is his choice and it is great that he can get his tone and feel for a much cheaper price. He said that if he were doing studio recordings that the C+ would be the choice, but likes the 3 channel amp in a band setting. He no longer uses the words "hype" or "myth" when referring to the C+, though.
