Greetings! Haven't posted here in awhile............

Test drove the Transatalantic today, played through a Marshall 1936 with celestion 75's, and used a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Great amp, loved the way it sounded on all modes.......but........the clean & top boost modes on the 15 & 25 watt settings had a lot of hiss........the 5 watt setting was dead quiet. This didn't seem right to me......is this how your TA's are performing?

I have a DC3 which "idles" a lot quieter than this particular TA. I'm seriously considering buying the TA but would like to determine if this hiss is inherent in the performance on those 2 settings or if this particular TA has issues.

It was the only TA in stock so I couldn't compare it to another one.

Thanks in advance for your responses & feedback!

Greg

My TA-15 is very hissy on those modes (clean channel) 15 & 25 watt. Louder than my mesa Nomad 45 combo, & 100 watt were and Fender Blues Junior and other tubes amps I have tried.

Also same as two others I have tried on shop floor and various internet videos. I think it is a design 'feature' and it is the only aspect of the amp I don't like.

Then again, I found the mesa 1:25 hissy for a studio recording amp so what do I know?!

I find the lonestar quiet.

Hey jonmy7,

Based on your reply and what others are saying on the BB I guess the TA "is what it is" very hissy on the clean 15 & 25 watt settings. Compared to my other 1x12 combos, (2 have EL84's) the TA by far has the most hiss on clean settings. Now I'm wondering if a change of tubes would make a difference?

I'm definately not knocking the TA, even with the hiss the clean settings sound great and the Tweed, Hi 1 & Hi 2 settings alone are worth the price of admission.

A lot of tone options in a very small package............OK I'm sold!
