I've heard that it's essential to use a Mesa cab with the Dual rectifier. Is that so? I will head into the studio in a few days, but only have Marshall and 5150 cabs there. What r your experiences with different cabs? Does the Mesa really sound "best"?

A friend of mine runs a DR through a Marshall cab with Warehouse Guitar Speakers in it and I think it sounds pretty **** good. If you're getting a sound you like, I wouldn't worry about it. I ran through a Marshall 1960a for years and had no complaints.

For me personally, a Rectifier only sounds like a Rectifier through the Recto Standard cab, just because that combination, for me, sounds like what I want a Rectifier to sound like.

Maybe it's just because of the fact that the majority of the Rectifier tones on albums have been recorded with this combination and it is the way I imagine a Rectifier to sound like.

But, in the end it's just a matter of personal preferences. There is no such thing as "the best cab" etc. because people prefer different things. Tone is a highly subjective thing and the tone that defines "the Recto" tone for me, could be a tone that you can't stand.

Mesa makes awesome cabs, the Rectifier Standard is my all-time favourite cab.

I ran my DR through EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. Marshall, Diezel, H&K, Orange, Mesa, Bogner, Custom Audio Electronics, Genz Benz, Johnson. And! At that time - was absolutely against the idea of getting a 212.

That was until I played an EarCandy 212. I pooled my cash and ordered one for myself. Best cabs made. Period.

I've plugged their stuff here a whole lot. Because I'm exceedingly thrilled with the cab they made for me! Even made me a diamond plate baffle to match the DR!!!

It kills. It slays. It murders. It - uh - murders. ;)

I run mine through a Marshall 1960BX Cabinet with Greenbacks. It sounds good to me. But I am sure the Mesa cab sounds good as well. I had the Cabinet before the head, so I don't feel like replacing it.
