sorry if this has been asked.... I was messing around with using the channels on the back of the head instead of using the footswitch and its insanely louder when i DONT use the foot switch. why would this be?

You're hard bypassing the loop? If so its because that overrides the output knob as uses the channel volume exclusively. This means your channel volume settings with the loop and output knob are going to be different than when you do the hard bypass (most likely alot louder). I will say I do think the tone is better, more open when you hard bypass the loop

sounds confusing... all i'm doing is not connecting the foot pedal and manually changing the channels on the back of the head... i was hoping to read a FAQ all about the knobs on the back of the head and how these tube amps work. my head sounds too muddy. :?

No worries... you know what year the TR is? Two channel or three channel?

^^ it's a 3 channel

Do you have the loop assign set to loop bypass? If so you're defeating the loop which also defeats the output and solo controls, which is the same as bypassing the loop on the newer models. This would describe what I said above. When you do this, try using the output control... if it doesn't do anything, then you're bypassing the loop and basically is now using the channel volumes as the output control. When you're not bypassing the loop and using the output as your master volume for the amp, the channel volume settings will normally be around 12 oclock... but when you bypass the loop those settings will be much louder than when the loop is in the signal path.

Sorry if i'm not making sense but its explained in the manual: http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/3chRecto.pdf

Read your owners manual, all the features of your amp are clearly explained.

What are you trying to accomplish by not using your footswitch? Is it not working properly?

so when i set the loop to "foot switch" i can use the output control. when would i want to do this? whats the difference?

Well the output control works as a master volume. The idea is you balance all the channel volumes so when switching between they are at around equal volume to each other and then the overall output of the amp is done via the output knob.

Just wondering did you read the manual? It does a good job of explaining all this, especially on bypassing the loop.

yes i have the manual right in front of me and some of it is still confusing. dont understand the slave control , pre amp and what the send and mix knobs do. some of this is new to me .
