Hi guys, I'm new around here and also new to tube amps ... just got my new rack with a quad and a fifty:fifty, lovin the tone of it!
My problem though, I'm running my Line 6 Delay modeler through the FX Loop and whenever I kick it in my guitar sounds a lot more muddy ... i've tried to flick the switch in the back (line level/low level) and the line level made it even worse ... so i figured the quad might overload the line 6 .... if so, how do i solve that problem, since there's no input- or headroom controll on the line 6 I really don't know what to do :(

Might I ask what you mean by 'muddy'... loss of signal or a darker sound perhaps? I assume you have tried different settings on the Line 6 to see if it cleans things up.

Does the loop work ok with any other delay or modulation pedals? If not, you might want to try changing the V22 tube that drives the fx loop to see if it makes any difference. Here is a link to a schematic as it is very easy to swap the quad's tubes yourself: http://www.tubefreak.com/s-quad5.gif

Alternately, try just running the main outputs of the quad directly into the inputs of your delay, skipping the loop alltogether. You can control the signal that is being fed in this way by using the output A & B controls. Many people prefer not to use the loop at all.. you can also try the recording outs to see if you like them better.

Thanks for the ideas, i'll try these and see if any of them work ...
by muddy i meant that when i kick in the pedal i loose quite a lot of the highend of my tone, especially on a distorted sound ... not so much on clean sounds

btw .. is there any difference between running effects through the loop and putting them between pre and power amp other than that you can use the output volumes of the quad as input volumes for the effects ?
